How to free up space on Google One

The memory on our smartphones never seems to be enough, the reason is mainly due to the improvement in the multimedia sector of the new devices. Today, thanks to technological development, it is possible to take photos and videos in very high quality. Unfortunately, however, the increase in quality and resolution also coincides with an increase in the space occupied by photos and videos.

The continuous filling of the smartphone memory leads us to search for services with which we can upload our files to the cloud, both to keep them safe and to free up precious internal memory.

Among these cloud services are certainly used by many of us the various Google services (Gmail, Drive and Photos) which lately have seen the individual storage spaces merge into a single space manageable with Google One.

Free up space on Google One

Not everyone knows, but each Google account has 15 GB of shared space between Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos, to archive: emails, attachments, files, photos and videos. It seems like a lot of space, but it tends to run out easily and, once finished, it is not even possible to send and receive emails.

Another fact that contributes to worsening the situation is that for a long time the service Google Photos was free and unlimited, making our life very simple, it was enough to activate the backup to have a copy of all our photos on the Cloud. As of June 2021 the service is no longer unlimited e the saved photos subtract the space from the 15GB available.

Even Google Drive, one of our favorite backup services and with which your personal files can be uploaded, risks getting saturated, as space is also used by emails and attachments on Gmail and by snapshots and videos uploaded to Google Photo.

So now it’s easy to find all 15GB of data occupied you have with your Google account, at this point there are two options:

  • free up space on Google One saving space from the 15GB of free space offered by Google,
  • or buy new space with an additional plan on Google One.

Freeing up space on Google One (Drive, Gmail and Photos) is easy, a special tool has been included, just:

The first three suggested methods that we find to free up space on Google One consist of deleting the files in the Gmail Trash, deleting the emails in the spam folder and emptying the Drive Trash.

Then you are guided to the elimination: of email with the most bulky attachments, of the larger files on Google Drive and gods content that takes up more space on Photos.

All three options are fully guided, once clicked we will be presented with a handy list of the most voluminous contents and we can easily choose which ones to permanently delete. Once our choice is complete, just press the trash can icon in the top right of the interface.

Free up space on Gmail

Just Gmail, during its use over the years, tends to saturate the space available to us, often the inbox is clogged with useless emails.

To free up all, or most, of the unnecessarily occupied space, there are various tactics, the best is to check which emails have the largest attachments and then choose whether they deserve to be kept or if they can be deleted.

See emails with large attachments it’s simple, just:

  • go to your Gmail page (if you have not already done so, log in with your Google account);
  • then in the search field at the top enter the string “has:attachment larger:10M“(Without quotation marks) and press the”Enter“On the keyboard;
  • at this point we will be shown all the emails with attachments that occupy at least 10 MB of space, you can proceed to the choice of those to keep and those to be deleted.

Free up Gmail Space

Once you have finished cleaning up the files with 10 MB attachments, you can move on to sift the 5MB ones in the same way, just enter the string “has:attachment larger:5M“Always in the search bar and press the”Send “ on the keyboard.

If even with these methods you have not managed to free up space on Google One, you can always opt for buy additional space on Google One, three plans are offered and fortunately the prices are particularly moderate.
