How to increase Hashrate XFX 6800 XT Speedster MERC 319: Internal arrangement (characteristics)
After several years of using the Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture, AMD introduced the RDNA architecture in July 2021, with the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT being the first cards to use this new technology and 7nm process.
AMD is positioning the RX 6800 XT as the main competitor to the Nvidia RTX 3080.
The average price of RX 6800 XT in Europe is ~ $649 ( NOT in Russia!). It turns out that the card will be sold a little cheaper than its competitor – RTX 3080 ($700).
The RX 6800 XT is still manufactured on TSMC’s 7nm process, like the RX 5000 series, the Navi 21 has a much larger GPU die at 519mm².
The RX 6800 XT contains 72 Compute Units (CUs) with 64 Stream Processors for a total of 4608 shaders.
The clock speed of the RX 6000 series graphics cards has increased significantly:
- Game Clock — 2015 MHz
- Boost Clock – 2250 MHz (in XFX MERC 319 – 2340 MM)
For comparison: Game Clock RX 5700 XT – 1755 MHz.
AMD has also increased the amount of memory by adding 16GB of GDDR6 memory to each RX 6000 model (but the more budget models are likely to get less memory).
The memory is clocked at 16 Gbps and runs through a 256-bit memory interface with a total bandwidth of 512 GB/s.
AMD has also implemented 128MB Infinity Cache on the Navi 21 GPU to greatly increase effective memory bandwidth without excessive power consumption.
In terms of power consumption, the RX 6800 XT has a total power rating (TBP) of 300W , which is 75W more than the RX 5700 XT.

How to Optimize XFX 6800 XT Speedster MERC 319 : Manual Overclocking Efficiency
Using the obtained clock speeds, a short Unigine Heaven test was run to evaluate the win.
The actual 3D performance obtained with manual overclocking was 5.6%.
Equipment
The video card comes in dark packaging with logos: “XFX” and “AMD”. There is no map image on the front side, instead we see a large inscription “MERC 319”.
On the back of the box, we see the technical specifications, the advantage of the card and its image.

In our opinion, this is a meager bundle for a card of this price category.
Cooling system
The design of the XFX Merc 319 is stylish due to the black cooler with silver accents all around. On the back, the word “Merc” is in large, bold type. The casing itself is made of metal .
The external cooling system seems to be very good at first glance. The XFX Merc 319 has 3 massive coolers that cover most of the map.
The central fan is 90mm in diameter and the two outer fans are 100mm in diameter. Hence the name “319” – 1 (00) 9 (0).
The card itself is very large, its dimensions are 34 x 14 cm. Three slots are required for installation .
The card is very heavy, all of it is 1805 grams !
The card uses 2x 8 Pin power inputs. This configuration is rated for power consumption up to 375W.
XFX has installed a dual BIOS feature on the Merc 319 that allows you to switch from the default “Balanced” BIOS to a “Hardware Rage” BIOS that has a slightly increased Power Limit.

The AMD Radeon RX 6000 series does not support multiple graphics cards (GPUs) at once.
As for the back of the video card (backplate), this model has it! The backplate itself is metal, it protects the card from damage during installation and operation.
There are holes in the backplate to filter hot air, and on the side we see a huge cutout for the passage of air flow from the third fan.
Also note that thermal pads are attached to the backplate, which serve as additional cooling for: GPU, memory and VRM.
Internal cooling system
Let’s move on to the internal cooling system of the XFX Radeon RX 6800 XT Speedster MERC 319 video card. The XFX radiator grill is a very complex structure made up of several components.
Seven heatpipes channel heat away from the GPU to a large heatsink, where it is dissipated in airflow from three fans.
Having detached the radiator grille, we see a metal bracket.
This bracket stabilizes the card from sagging. It gives the impression of high quality, comparable to what ASUS uses on their cards.
Having disconnected it, we see a clean printed circuit board.
The GPU is powered by the expensive Infineon XDPE132G5D with 16 power phases.
Chips International Rectifier TDA21472 DrMOS for GPU.
The memory voltage uses a three-phase circuit controlled by an International Rectifier IR35217 controller.
IRF TDA21472 chips are also used for memory. The GDDR6 chips are manufactured by Samsung and have the model number ” K4ZAF325BM-HC16 ” and are designed to operate at 16 Gbps.
AMD “Navi 21″ uses an external USB 3.2 controller for the USB-C port supplied by Cypress Semiconductor and labeled ” CYPD5137-40LQXI “. This controller provides USB 3.2 Gen 2 data transfer at 10 Gbps.
Built on the same TSMC N7 (7nm) as Navi 10, the Navi 21 GPU covers a die area of 519.8 mm² and contains 26.8 billion transistors. The pinkish red tint we saw on the Navi 10 is gone.
Test results
We evaluated the performance on a stand with a Core i9-9900K processor operating at a frequency of 4.9 GHz, two DDR4-2666 memory sticks with a total capacity of 16 GB, and a 240 GB M.2 NVMe SSD drive. As tests – different games of the last three years. The set of resolutions is unchanged – 4K (3840 × 2160), QHD (2560 × 1440), Full HD (1920 × 1080). Settings are set according to hardwired presets, additional technology activations (anti-aliasing, ray tracing) are not performed. The exception is Control, Metro Exodus and Cyberpunk 2077, but everything is described separately there.
S(t)simulator of medieval battles For Honor always pleases with a high frame rate at maximum graphics settings. And this time it did not disappoint: 100 without one fps in 4K, not to mention other resolutions. A well-optimized software product is the key to high performance and popularity.
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands can’t be attributed to light games, but the 6800 XT coped with it: 63 fps at maximum settings in 4K, 77 in QHD and 83 in Full HD. It is noteworthy that the frame rate depends much more on the quality settings than on the resolution. With regard to 4K, it is rare that the drop in performance from switching from QHD to 4K is less than 20%. In any case, absolutely all resolutions and settings are playable, small loads are noticeable only at the beginning of the gameplay.
The well-known shooter Far Cry in the New Dawn edition turned out to be easy for the 6800 XT: the differences between resolutions and settings are minimal. Even the suspicion crept in that the results are “fake” due to a settings failure or some other glitch. Rechecked – the differences are minimal, within the margin of error. The game runs smoothly, jerks and friezes are completely absent.
The strange shooter Control turned out to be a tough nut to crack for the hero of today’s tests, but it’s understandable: ray tracing loads the video card very much. And if the resolution is still set to serious … In general, it was clearly difficult in a 4K video card. But with a strong desire, you can play, since 50-60 fps is not 30, and the friezes are almost invisible. Comfortable “gaming” begins with QHD resolution with its 94-100 fps at maximum and medium settings. Ray tracing was activated only in the High preset.
The relatively new part of Assassin’s Creed called Valhalla is lighter than the previous one in terms of general subjective impressions, and 4K was somehow too easy for the video card. 71 frames at the highest detail without a single sticking is very good. Almost the same as For Honor, only less three-digit values.
One of the heaviest games for the 6800 XT is Metro Exodus. Alas, many important image parameters are not included in the general preset, so you have to reduce them manually. On the Extreme profile, as expected, DLSS, Ray Tracing and tessellation are enabled. Hence the result in 27 frames in 4K and 44 in QHD. If we turn off tessellation and all RTX chips, we get a 1.5-fold increase in fps, all other things being equal. It is comfortable to play at maximum settings in Full HD and, if you turn off ray tracing, even in QHD. If the picture quality is unprincipled, you can safely go down to the High preset, there is even 4K without ray tracing and tessellation.
An excellent real-time strategy game Total War: Three Kingdoms loads the graphics card perfectly without any RTX technologies. The key to “success” is a lot of small objects that need to be drawn in great detail. Therefore, at the maximum and high image quality, fps is low. But the 6800 XT pulls out its 55-70 frames even in 4K, and already a hundred in QHD.
The second part of Division from Tom Clancy is hungry for resources, so a hundred frames with a good picture can only be seen in QHD. In general, there seems to be no problems with the game even in 4K, but some discomfort due to periodic random friezes motivates me to drop the quality settings to High or Medium. Otherwise, there are no problems with the game.
The first part of Horizon, which is Zero Dawn, frankly plays well in 4K. According to the numbers, everything seems to be average, but according to subjective sensations, everything is fine: smoothly, without long downloads, clearly and saturated. And even add nothing.
The most talked about hit of 2021 – Cyberpunk 2077 – turned out to be very diverse in terms of presets. If you activate ray tracing, then you can actually play only in Full HD (DLSS is disabled). If just the high quality of the picture suits you, then already in QHD everything is smooth and stable. 4K is good, alas, only at medium and low quality settings. And then, there are unpleasant short-term sticking when changing locations.
The huge area of the radiator fins gives its advantages: the temperature of the GPU is only 60 degrees at 2100 rpm. And this can be called the best option, since at 2970 rpm (maximum rotation speed) the temperature dropped by only four degrees. Do you want silence? You can limit the speed to 1800 rpm, and the GPU will heat up to 64-67 degrees, which is completely safe for him.
It is convenient to configure the graphics card settings using the GPU Tweak II utility, which can be downloaded from the ASUS website. It can work in simple mode, where the user selects one of three preset profiles…
… And advanced mode, when the frequency and voltage of the GPU can be changed manually.
Also available for editing is a graph of the dependence of the fan speed on the temperature of the GPU.
In a separate window of the program, data from the main sensors on the video card are presented in the form of graphs.
Also from GPU Tweak II, the GPU-Z utility is built in, which displays basic information about the video card.

All thermal images were taken under maximum load for a general idea and understanding of the cooling system with a slight overclocking of the core and memory.
By installing a thermal camera on top, we get the following indicators:
The GPU temperature is at around 60 degrees – this is an excellent indicator.
The memory is at a temperature mark of ~ 55-59 degrees.
By installing the thermal chamber on the side (from the side of the coolers), we get the following indicators:
The GPU temperature is kept at 60 degrees.
VRM temperature – 70 degrees, the average.
In general, the map looks cold in the pictures.
Tests in MSI Afterburner show slightly different results, the GPU temperature is at around 72 (73) degrees:
It’s not critical, but it’s not ideal either. I would like to see a card with such a cooling system 7-8 degrees lower!
