NVIDIA RTX 3060 LHR Overclocking for Mining

We will overclock NVIDIA RTX 3060 LHR for mining using MSI Afterburner. You can find it in Yandex. The program interface is very simple, albeit a little colorful) To overclock the video card, we need two sliders:

  • Core Clock – overclocking by the core, increases the core frequency;
  • Memory Clock – memory overclocking, increases the memory frequency.
  • Power Limit – allows you to increase or decrease the power consumption of the video card.

Best Overclocking Settings for GeForce RTX 3060 Ti LHR Mining

The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti is considered one of the best mining graphics cards ever made. Delivering speeds up to 60 MH/s with a total power consumption of just 130W, this is by far the most efficient GPU for Ethereum mining.

Unfortunately, almost all new GeForce RTX 3060 Ti cards now come with a built-in cryptocurrency limiter, hence the “LHR” label in their name. The built-in mining limiter makes the new RTX 3060 Ti cards less profitable and less energy efficient than the original non-LHR models. However, with some tweaks and the right software, even an RTX 3060 Ti can deliver pretty good mining performance. Learn more to find out how.

On paper, the RTX 3060 Ti LHR is identical to the original RTX 3060 Ti (no LHR). Both cards have 4864 CUDA cores along with 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM and can deliver up to 16.2 teraflops of FP32 performance.

However, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti LHR comes with a built-in mining limiter, which means it can only mine around 30 MH/s when mining Ethereum, which is almost 50% less than the original GeForce RTX 3060 Ti (without LHR). To make matters worse, the original RTX 3060 Ti is nearly impossible to get these days as many AIB manufacturers have discontinued it. The only non-LHR RTX 3060 Ti model you can buy these days is the Founders Edition model,  which can sometimes be found on Amazon , but is quite expensive and usually out of stock.

Note . We highly recommend using the latest version of NBMiner or GMiner if you plan to mine Ethereum with the RTX 3060 Ti LHR. These miners partially bypass the card’s built-in mining limiter, allowing the card to increase the mining hashrate by up to 34%.

However, despite the disappointing Ethereum mining performance, the new RTX 3060 Ti LHR is still a pretty decent mining GPU. When it comes to Ergo (ERG) mining, the RTX 3060 Ti LHR performs about the same as the GeForce RTX 3070 LHR but costs less. It is also not bad for mining altcoins like Conceal (CCX), Ryo (RYO) and Ravencoin (RVN).

A lot of progress has been made in the last couple of months in unlocking LHR cards for mining. Many cryptocurrency miners, including NBMiner, GMiner and T-Rex miner, now offer software solutions that partially bypass the built-in mining limiter of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. This means that with the right overclocking settings and software, the base mining hash rate of the Ethereum RTX 3060 Ti can now be increased from a starting 30 MH/s to 45 MH/s. In this guide, we will show you the best overclock settings for mining with the RTX 3060 Ti LHR and see which miner works best with this card.

Best Overclocking Settings for ETH Mining with GeForce RTX 3060 Ti LHR

Before you start mining Ethereum with the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti LHR, we recommend overclocking your graphics card to maximize its performance. However, it should be noted that overclocking should be used at your own risk! ViCadia.com assumes no obligation to overclock or tune your computer. You have been warned!

Before you start mining with the RTX 3060 Ti LHR, first download the latest  MSI Afterburner  and  HWiNFO64 . To manually adjust the core clock, memory frequency, and power limit settings for your GPU, use MSI Afterburner. To keep a close eye on the core clock and video memory temperature, we recommend using the HWiNFO64 tool. If you notice any strange behavior of your GPU, return to original settings immediately!

Ethereum mining performance and benchmarks: GeForce RTX 3060 Ti LHR

Almost all miners work in much the same way with the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti LHR, however there are some minor differences worth talking about. If you take a close look at our table above, you will see that NBMiner 39.5 performs the worst (at least when it comes to raw mining hashrate), while the miniZ miner performs the best. It is also worth noting that there is almost no difference in performance between NBMiner and GMiner, so it is safe to say that these two miners perform almost the same.

When it comes to efficiency, the situation is much more complicated. Both NBMiner and GMiner take the crown here as with these two miners, the RTX 3060 Ti LHR consumes only about 102W of power, while with the miniZ and T-Rex miner, it consumes almost 130W of power. Increased power consumption also causes increased heat dissipation, so it’s not surprising that the RTX 3060 Ti runs a little hot with miniZ and T-Rex miners. Below you can see the Performance Efficiency Chart which gives a much better idea of the performance differences between the tested miners.

Ethereum mining performance and benchmarks: GeForce RTX 3060 Ti LHR

As you can see, GMiner is the best miner if you have an RTX 3060 Ti LHR. This miner can provide maximum efficiency and it has a developer fee of 0.65%, which is slightly less compared to NBMiner’s 1% fee. Of course, if pure mining performance is all you care about, consider switching to lolMiner. Not only is it more efficient than the T-Rex miner, but it also has a lower developer fee of just 0.7%. Compared to GMiner, with lolMiner you can expect higher power consumption and slightly worse mining efficiency, but on average your card will hash at roughly 42.5 MH/s.

MiniZ is also a pretty good miner when it comes to pure performance, however the time you spend fiddling with it doesn’t really justify its high hash rate. You see, miniZ comes with a plethora of options that will keep you occupied for hours until you find the best settings to suit your needs. In general, miniZ is quite unstable and causes a lot of system crashes, so be prepared if you decide to choose this miner. Of course, if you like to constantly optimize and test your GPU’s mining performance then miniZ is the best option, but if you just want to mine as efficiently as possible, then GMiner seems like a much better choice.

In general, none of the tested miners showed an impressive increase in performance, however, all of them were able to partially unlock the potential of RTX 3060 Ti mining and increase its hashrate by up to 33%. Truth be told, this performance boost isn’t too bad, but it still leaves a lot to be desired, especially since the non-LHR GeForce RTX 3060 Ti can hit 60 MH/s at 130W without any tweaking.

You also have to be very careful if your RTX 3060 Ti LHR is equipped with Samsung or Hynix memory modules. Cards with Samsung memory modules tend to perform somewhat better, which means they can deliver around 45 MH/s, while cards with Hynix memory modules can deliver between 37 and 42 MH/s.

Despite the limited mining performance, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti LHR seems like a card with a lot of potential and we hope that cryptocurrency miner developers will discover new solutions that allow them to fully unlock LHR cards. We hope you enjoyed this guide and found this information helpful. If you have any thoughts you would like to share with us, feel free to leave a comment below. Happy mining!
