How to retune the Sony TV – You just bought one Sony TV and, not really being an expert in the field of technology, you don’t know how to tune the channels? Or has it been months since the last tuning, you have a channel list full of broadcasters that no longer broadcast anything and you don’t remember how to update it? Don’t worry, I’m here to help you out. In this guide, in fact, I will explain to you in detail how to retune Sony TV.

The procedure may vary slightly from model to model, as Sony has produced so many models of televisions and Smart TVs over the years. In any case, you will see that the menus present on the TVs of the Japanese multinational are always very easy to use and the menus very intuitive to consult. In short, unless you have problems with the antenna, it will not be necessary to be an expert antenna to perform the right steps.

So make yourself comfortable and dedicate 5 minutes of your time to reading this guide. Once you have done the tuning for the first time, you will be able to repeat it as many times as you want. All you have to do is follow my advice? I wish you a good read and I wish you good luck for everything!

Automatic tuning

One of the easiest and fastest methods for retune the Sony TV is to rely on the option of automatic retuning of the channels. Using this method, your TV will automatically scan the digital frequencies via the antenna, and then reposition the channels found in the list, respecting the numbering system (e.g. the LCN one for digital terrestrial).

The first fundamental step is to pick up the remote control, turn on the TV and then press the button Home which is found, most of the time, in the center of the same, around the directional arrows. For the tutorial I used a 2015 Sony Bravia Smart TV, but the instructions I will give you apply not only to retune the Sony Bravia TV: even if with some minor differences in the menu items to press, you will be able to replicate them on practically any model of the Japanese manufacturer.

Navigate, therefore, in the Home through the directional arrows, until you find the menu named Settings. It could also be reached from the key Options on the remote control, if there is no Home button.

Once you have identified the Settings, press on middle button of the remote control, placed in the middle of the directional arrows, to access the menu. Then press the again middle button next to the called menu Channel settings.

Finally, choose the button Digital setting to access the submenu dedicated to re-tuning and managing digital channels. Choose the first option, Digital tuning, then select the one named Automatic digital preselection.

Within the newly opened screen, you are asked the question Start auto preselection? then, click on the option OK when you’re ready. Next, you need to select the type of TV antenna to be used for scanning. Since cable TV is not widespread in Italy, choose the option Antenna.

At this point, the automatic channel search begins, which you can monitor both through the central bar which monitors the progress of the scan by a percentage, both by the number of channels found, which is updated every time a new one is found.

At the end of the operation, if there are any, you may be shown warnings related to conflicts between channels that transmit with the same number. Select the channel to save with the arrows on the remote control, then press the button OK. Repeat for each conflict.

Once the conflicts have been resolved, wait for the TV to return to the section dedicated to digital terrestrial programs and check the success of the scan by scrolling through the channels. If you have any further doubts, I advise you to consult the official guide on the Sony website, which explains in detail the procedure for all models.

Manual Tuning

In case of problems

In case at the end of the tuning you should find some problems, I will show you some quick and easy methods to check and, if possible, fix the correct functioning of the channels.

Reorder the channels

reorder channels

Synchronization of digital channels on Sony TV was successful, but now you don’t end up with the numbering of the same. In that case don’t worry, there is nothing simpler than that reorder channels.

First, press the button Home on your remote, then go to the menu of Settings. You can reach it, alternatively, by pressing the button Options remote control.

Then locate the entry Digital setting and confirm by pressing the key in the center on the remote control, marked with a symbol + or from the writing OK. Scroll to the bottom, until you find the named setting Order digital programs.

Once you have accessed this menu with the central button on the remote control, enter the number of the channel you want to move and confirm by pressing the usual one middle button.

Then scroll with i directional keys, up or down, to move it manually, or type the number of the new channel on which you want to view the program using the numeric keys remote control. Finally, confirm by pressing OK and continue repeating this procedure for all the programs you want to modify.

Otherwise, if you fail with this method, go to the menu Digital tuning, placed inside that Digital setting. Then go to the option Edit program list, in which you will find all the channels sorted by number.

Then press the right directional arrow on the channel of your interest, to enable it to move, and then go its O down until you find the place you intend to move it to. So, hit the left arrow to replace it with another channel.

Poor signal

Poor signal

Sometimes, a channel may not be displayed correctly due to a signal error. Specifically, you might see the alert named No signal. Check the antenna.

The first thing you need to do, of course, is to take a look at the antenna cable, placed behind the TV. You can recognize it by the shape plug roundabout, which starts from a specific slot on the wall and ends its run in the back of the TV.

Try replacing it with a new one if it doesn’t look like it’s badly connected. In any case, carry out the manual scan on the channel that is badly seen every time you make a change to the cable, so as to check if the problem is solved.

An alternative solution can be that of update the firmware of the TV. To do this, go to Settings and press on the option named Configuration O Technical support. Finally, select Software update and then Network. Choose this option only if you detect particular problems, as it risks compromising the correct functionality of your device.

I also advise you to check the TV antenna of your residence. See the article I wrote on how to orient the TV antenna to learn more, I’m sure it will help you a lot.
