How to turn down the volume of a Google card: PC

If your intention is turn down the volume of a Google card, you should know that Chrome has a function to completely mute the sound of one or more tabs (not only on Google sites, but on any site you visit). To set a different volume for specific cards, however, you need to download a special browser extension.

In the first case, start Google Chrome on your computer and, if you want to open a new tab, click on the button + placed next to the last opened tab. Alternatively, you can use the key combination Ctrl+T+Maiusc.

At this point, to mute a specific card, right click on it and select the option Mute site audio from the menu that appears. You must know, however, that this option does not apply to the single card but to the entire site open in the latter: by connecting to another website, the audio of the card will reactivate automatically, while by accessing the “changed” site again in previously (also from another tab) the sound of the card will still be muted.

To understand better, let’s take a practical example: if you have opened YouTube in a Chrome tab and you have deactivated the sound following the instructions I gave you previously, the site in question will automatically be “changed” by opening it in another tab as well of the browser. By accessing, however, any other site other than YouTube (eg Netflix) from the same tab for which you have deactivated the audio, it will be automatically reactivated.

Also, it will be useful to know that mute is a permanent change, even if the browser is restarted. To reactivate the audio you need to proceed manually: to do so, open the “changed” site in any Chrome tab, right-click on the tab in question and select the option Unmute the site from the menu that is proposed to you.

If, on the other hand, you prefer to lower the audio of a single Chrome tab while keeping the volume of the other tabs unchanged and without necessarily turning off the audio, you can rely on Volume Master– A free extension that allows you to manage the volume of individual tabs.

To download and install the extension in question, go to this page of the Chrome Web Store and press the buttons add e Add extension. Once this is done, click on the icon of Volume Master (the three light blue dashes), at the top right of the Chrome window, and move the cursor present near the item Volume, to decrease the volume of the open tab. Similarly, you can proceed to lower (or raise) the volume of another tab.

Unlike Chrome’s native feature to mute a tab, changes made with Volume Master apply to the individual tab and not the entire site. Also, the changes are not permanent: restarting the browser restores the volume to normal values.

Finally, I want to underline that Volume Master is an unofficial extension, that is developed by third parties and not directly by Google: although there is no reason to doubt the good faith of its developers, it could represent a potential privacy risk. . Therefore, use it only if strictly necessary and, after using it, if you no longer need it, uninstall it from the browser.

How to turn down the volume of a Google card: Mac

The procedure for turn down the volume of a Google card on Mac it is almost identical to what I indicated earlier to do it on a Windows PC. Again, you can either mute a single tab via Chrome’s native feature or rely on Volume Master, a browser extension that allows you to increase and decrease the volume of individual tabs.

To completely mute the sound of a Chrome tab and apply the change to the site open in the tab, start the browser in question and connect to the main page of the website you intend to “change”. Once this is done, right click on the browser tab and select the option Mute site audio from the menu that is proposed to you. Alternatively, tap on the item Card located in the menu bar and choose the item Mute site audio from the menu that opens.

In case of second thoughts, you can reactivate the audio at any time by right clicking on the “mutated” tab again and selecting the option Unmute the site from the context menu.

If, on the other hand, you need to manage the audio of individual cards without turning it off, connect to this page of the Chrome Web Store, click on the button add and, in the new screen that appears, select the option Add extension, to download and install Volume Master.

Once this is done, click on the icon of the extension in question (le three light blue dashes, at the top right of the Chrome window) and, in the window that opens, move the cursor to the left to decrease the volume of the open tab. To adjust the volume of another tab, click on it, open it again Volume Master and move the cursor left or right to increase or decrease the volume.

The privacy guidelines of Chrome extensions also apply to Mac: if not strictly necessary, do not install them and, when you no longer need them, uninstall them.

How to lower the volume of a Google card: smartphone and tablet

If you are wondering if it is possible to turn down the volume of a Google card on smartphones and tablets using the Chrome device app Android e iPhone/iPad, the only option available to you is to decrease the volume of your device (option which, of course, is also valid for any other browser).

Furthermore, although it is possible to open multiple tabs on Chrome, you should know that by switching from one tab to another, any audio played on the previous tab is automatically disabled.

Having said that, I would like to point out that on smartphones and tablets equipped with Android it is possible to mute the sound of all the cards by acting on Settings of Chrome.
