This year, Red Bull Racing and Aston Martin have decided to create the unique Aston Martin Valkyrie, a show sports hybrid whose performance is still in doubt. However, according to Red Bull F1 boss Helmut Marko, that could change depending on what happens to F1 in 2020.
Marko gave an interview with Autosport, in which he suggested that there is a possibility that at least something based on the phenomenal Valkyrie could participate in the La Mans tournament. However, this is only possible when the F1 rule changes for 2020 fail the team. As Red Bull will enter Honda next year under a two-year contract, Marko explained that after this stage he would not be interested in going back to the old way of doing things. “We certainly will not be re-addicted as we were in the past when we pleaded with others and statements and promises were not honored.” – He said.
He also threatened that if Red Bull did not have a clear path to victory after 2020, it would withdraw completely from the series and possibly enter another series, such as the World Endurance Championship. However, if the Valkyrie is able to come to the track, it will be modified before its race … if Aston Martin agrees, following the new FIA / ACO “Hypercar” regulations.
