VIENNA, 12 Sep – PRIME. A second standby transmission line has been restored to power the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Monday evening.
The head of the IAEA made a proposal to create a protective zone around the ZNPP
“The second backup transmission line to ZNPP has been restored, which allows the operator to leave one line in reserve, providing the second station with the external electricity necessary for cooling the reactor and other vital protective functions during the shutdown,” the agency’s website said in a statement.
Despite this, the head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, said that “the situation with nuclear protection and security at the station, located in the center of hostilities, remained unstable.”
According to him, there is an “urgent need” to create a protective zone around the nuclear power plant, starting consultations with the parties have already begun.
