Despite verification, there are still more and more fake accounts on social networks. Instagram is also struggling with this, so it was decided to make another attempt to limit them by introducing a new method of identity verification.
Video selfie – how Instagram wants to fight fake accounts
It is very important to limit the creation of fake accounts on social networking sites. Many profiles of this type are used for fraud and abuse, and their creators often use the image of another person. That’s why Instagram made the decision to introduce identity verification using video selfie.

In order to be able to check the identity of a person, the website asks them to shoot a short video clip with their face visible. Then the AI algorithm will analyze and confirm if there is a real person in the recording. Instagram ensures that the uploaded video will not be shared anywhere and will be deleted within 30 days. For now, this only applies to those who want to create new accounts.
Instagram seems to have finally solved the problems with this method of identity verification. It was introduced in August last year, but due to technical problems, the website had to withdraw it.
