Intel, Tiger Lake-U with 4 cores appears on Geekbench: it surpasses Comet Lake with 6 cores

The well-known hardware leaker TUM_APISAK he identified a new Intel Tiger Lake CPU in the Geekbench database (here and here). Tiger Lake is the mobile project of the Santa Clara house that will replace Ice Lake over the next year.

According to Intel's official statement, Tiger Lake will have a new CPU architecture (core Willow Cove), an architecture-based GPU Xe (Gen12) and other news regarding interconnections and the video department.

The processor discovered on Geekbench belongs to the U series of Intel's proposals, therefore with a TDP of 15/25 W. The CPU is equipped with 4 cores and 8 threads and a base frequency of 1.2 GHz. On board there are 12 MB L3 cache and 5 MB L2 cache.

The CPU has been tested on two differently configured platforms, the first with 16 GB of LPDDR4, the second with 8 GB of DDR4. The configuration with 16 GB LPDDR4 scored 1162 points in single core and 4047 points in multi-core, while the second scored 1187 points in single core and 4274 points in multi-core.

Compared to current CPUs, Comet Lake-U (14 nm) and Ice Lake-U (10 nm), Tiger Lake-U bodes well. The most powerful Comet Lake-U CPU, the Core i7 10710U, boasts 6 cores / 12 threads and a base frequency of 1.6 GHz, but has been surpassed in both single and multi-core (here a score).

The Ice Lake-U i7 1065G7 CPU achieves higher single and multi-core scores, but compared to a higher base frequency of 1.5 GHz. On the other hand, we must not forget that the Tiger Lake-U in question is an engineering sample and 1.2 GHz could be a frequency far from the definitive one.
