Intel to launch an exclusive i5-12490F for China, with 20MB of L3 cache instead of 18MB

Apparently Intel saved some products in its release of the Alder Lake “No-K” CPUs yesterday. Just a day later, the Core i5-12490F came to light, an exclusive CPU for the Chinese market that not only has a curious name, but also somewhat confusing specifications, which we will mention below.

The new Core i5-12490F has 6 cores and 12 threads like all Core i5 “No-K”, but it has more L3 cache, having a total of 20MB compared to 18MB that the other models have. Something even more curious is that it works with a base frequency of 3.0GHz and a boost of 4.6GHz like the i5-12500, so although its name would indicate that it is an inferior model, it should actually offer more performance to the have the same frequencies and more cache.

Another curious aspect is that unlike the rest of the boxes of 12ma CPUs. Generation, the i5-12490F case combines different shades of dark gray instead of different shades of blue, and unlike other “No-K” processors, this processor does not include a factory heatsink.

Currently the i5-12490F sells for the equivalent of $ 252, compared to $ 236 for the i5-12400F in China. With this CPU we will have a few more MHz and 2MB more of cache for just a few additional dollars, although the cost of a heatsink will also have to be added, further extending the price difference.
