Intel Xe is suffering from efficiency issues

With the graphics cards in the Xe family and the Gen12 architecture, Intel will return to the market for dedicated graphics cards after many years of absence. AMD and Nvidia will then be joined by a third competitor whose initial graphics card in the Xe family will be released in 2020 and manufactured at 10 nanometers.

The development of the first generation Xe graphics card is said to suffer from energy efficiency problems according to the well-known Chiphell user wjm47196. According to information, the problems of the first graphics cards with inefficiency make it difficult in their current form to assert themselves against AMD’s and Nvidia’s counterparts.

The associated drivers are also said to be in great need of improvements, but with up to a year left before the graphics cards reach the market, this is an area that can and should be improved until the launch. According to the information, the Xe graphics cards will initially only come in the form of reference designs from Intel itself.

The reason is that Intel has not yet established cooperation with partner manufacturers (AIB) for the Xe family at the consumer level. The data also states that Intel’s first Xe graphics card of 7 nanometers, the data center-focused graphics circuit “Ponte Vecchio”, will not be released within the next two years.

This means a launch after the year 2022, which contradicts previous information about the launch in 2021 in connection with the super computer Intel Aurora. The Gen12 architecture that forms the basis of the Xe family is expected to make its entrance in the summer of 2020 and will also form the graphics part of next year’s Tiger Lake processors for laptops.
