KingRoot.net: How to Root Android 4.4 – 5.0 – 5.1.1

Kingroot.net it was a website where you could download the Kingroot APK to obtain root permissions on Android 2.0 or higher. The site has been taken down, but the Kingroot APK can still be found on the internet, including the site king-root.net (note the middle line) or kingrootapp.net, which even though they offer the app, are probably just taking advantage of the earlier popularity of the original kingroot.net. However you get this application, you must be careful because it has been accused of having viruses or malware.

Kingroot (don’t be confused with Kingo Android Root) is an APK of Chinese origin that allows you to be rooted from the same phone, without having to use a computer or PC in between. Version 4.0 included support for Android 4.4, 5.0, and 5.1. Version 5.3 surely supports higher Android systems. On the official page it said that it could support more than 100,000 devices, between Samsung, Huawei, LG and others.

Download, Install and use Kingroot

As it is an installable APK, it was all a matter of installing this file on the phone and running it.

The application is in Chinese but it seems to be intuitive enough. You just have to press the root button that will appear at the bottom. You wait for the process to finish and nothing else.

The application Root Checker, available on Google Play, will allow you to easily verify if the root was obtained successfully or not.

In order to install this APK, it will be necessary to enable Unknown Sources on the Android (Settings > Safety).

Is Kingroot safe?

Unfortunately, this Chinese KingRoot app has been accused of having Malware and Adware. It is claimed to make irregular changes to the system and these cannot be reversed. On this XDA-Developers page AVG antivirus pages are referenced, where the Kingroot scan is supposed to be done.

When using online antivirus VirusTotal.com, Kingroot is detected as a threat by some popular antivirus. In addition, Kingroot installs its own application to manage root permissions, called Kinguser (you cannot choose to install SuperSU). When installed, KingRoot also has permission to do various things on the cell phone. For example, you can take photos and videos, view contacts, and have full network access, among the most important permissions.

What can be said for Kingroot is that it is not a new app. It has been on the internet for a long time. As for malware, other root applications such as TowelRoot or Framaroot are also detected by antivirus. It is a common point of these types of applications. However, none of this makes us recommend this application, especially if it is to be installed on a cell phone with sensitive data.
