Let there be air: Fractal Design Torrent RGB Review – Airflow test with four 180mm fans as a follow-up

We had already found out in the test that the torrent already has a very good airflow in its standard equipment. Today we want to test what the use of four of the 180mm big monster fans brings and whether there is also room for a larger water cooling in the case. I had already promised the follow-up test in advance and because there was a lot of feedback and also some questions about the test report, I am trying to take up some of it and clarify it.

Warning fan hub

The case had only made headlines a few days ago because sales were suspended for the time being due to an alleged design error in the fan hub. Here are a few thoughts from me. First of all, I think it is very exemplary that Fractal reacts so consistently to the few cases in which the problem with triggering the short-circuit circuit of the power supply occurred. Sales were immediately suspended until the bug was resolved and anyone who has already received their case is advised not to use the fan hub. Furthermore, a free exchange with an updated model was offered as soon as it is available.

Instead of rumbling now that it could have been solved better, it should also be mentioned that the error occurred extremely rarely. With a bit of caution, it may even be possible to avoid it by checking the seating of the three fastening screws and making sure that no loose cables or plugs press unhappily on the very exposed connections.
Obviously, Fractal has learned from the recent debacles of other manufacturers and immediately communicated the matter openly and acted on it.

Fan presentation

Together with the torrent, the fans specially developed for this case were also launched, which can be purchased in 140 and 180mm and with or without (A) RGB lighting. For an overview, I leave the technical data of the four variants here and limit myself to the Prisma fans available to me in the test.
