The phrase “social distancing” has become one of the most popular social media hashtags. Essentially, to reduce the rate of spread of coronavirus (officially COVID-19), people are advised to stay home and be isolated. For some, it’s not a big deal – they were doing this before it became trendy. For those accustomed to an active social life, however, it is possible that the home state can be very frustrating.

Throughout history, humanity has faced various epidemics and many need isolation. On the one hand, those periods have generated unexpected benefits for humanity.

Sir Isaac Newton, a student at the time, had to retire to Cambrige in 1665 to avoid the plague of London. Boredom, he developed the basic theories of optics and differential calculus and laid the foundation of the law of universal attraction. Three years later, he was one of the oldest famous scientists from Europe.

William Shakespeare apparently wrote the plays of King Lear, Macbeth and Antony and Cleopatra while he was quarantined during a plague outbreak. Having no other occupation, the man wrote some classic pieces that they have changed the theater forever.

Perhaps not all will develop new branches of mathematics or revolutionize art, but it is encouraging to remember that a period of isolation can bring long-term benefits.

On the other hand, neither Newton nor Shakespeare had the benefit of the Internet or Netflix. If we are realists, we can spend the next 50 years watching serials and memes or arguing with strangers from around the world.

Depending on your personal preferences, information about cryptocurrencies is available in print or in Youtube clips. And for those whose talents are in the activity on social media, there are numerous opportunities to make money from promoting projects or publishing articles.

If you already know everything there is to know about technology and have some programming knowledge, you may be interested in contributing to the development of an open source project. There are numerous platforms that offer bounties for code contributions or bug identification.

Ideally, this period of social distancing could offer a major leap in the development of crypto projects and, why not, in the growth degree of public education about Bitcoin.
