Lorraine Sea Trials. This is the last French multi-role FREMM frigate

FREMM is an abbreviation of the French Frégate Européenne Multi-Mission and defines a European multi-mission frigate, the last of which is headed for the service of the French Navy. Before that, however, the ship must prove itself in practice, and that is what will happen, because the Lorraine sea trials have just begun.

The last planned FREMM frigate will be verified soon, i.e. the Lorraine sea trials

DA Lorraine is a FREMM-type missile frigate that began sea trials on February 22. During them, in the first session, the ship’s propulsion and navigation systems will be tested, and in the next, additional systems. If everything goes according to plan, it will be handed over to the French Navy at the end of 2022 as the eighth FREMM frigate (via Naval Group).

It is worth noting that the Lorraine is an unusual FREMM frigate, and its special version is the FREMM DA, i.e. a variant to defend against threats from the air. In practice, it will provide air defense support to the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier and Mistral-class helicopters as part of a sea or amphibious strike group.

As for the differences to other FREMM frigates, the Lorraine has been upgraded with enhanced cyber capabilities, an optimized mast, longer-range radar, and a secure NATO Liaison 22 digital radio system.
