Media: the European Union will discuss the price ceiling for Russian gas on September 7

MOSCOW, September 5 – PRIME. EU countries will discuss the introduction of a ceiling on the price of Russian gas at a technical meeting on September 7, Bloomberg reports, citing an internal EU document.

Earlier, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the community needs to impose a price limit on “blue fuel” from Russia.

“In a note on Russian gas imports, the EU outlined two possible tools: a price cap on imported gas and administrative pricing during emergencies for regions most affected by supply disruptions,” the agency reports.

According to the publication, EU experts will consider proposals for limiting energy resources at a technical meeting on September 7.

On September 2, the G7 finance ministers confirmed the plan to introduce a “price cap” on Russian oil and called on “all countries” to join the initiative. Earlier, European Commissioner for the Economy Paolo Gentiloni said that the EC’s goal is to introduce a price cap in accordance with the deadlines agreed under the sixth EU sanctions package, that is, December 5, 2022 for crude oil and February 5, 2023 for petroleum products.
