MSI MEG Silent Gale P12 in an exclusive test – this fan could set new standards!

With the MSI MEG Silent Gale P12, MSI will be placing a new case fan on the market in the coming days, which really surprised us in the test. Just another case fan? The fact that this is not the case is of course also due to the OEM, because MSI does not manufacture it itself. The person in charge may have thought that he could save himself the long way to the mainland, because Power Logic Technologies is really not that far within New Taipei City. Which then also clarifies the manufacturer.

Similar to the recently tested Phanteks T30, the fan has a slightly different thickness. With the 27.5 cm you are exactly between the class-standard 25 mm and the fat 30 mm of the T30. You absolutely have to know and take into account that when the lid between the radiator and motherboard is already tight. But the additional 2.5 mm didn’t do any harm to the fan, because the measurement results prove Power Logic to be right. The rest of the fan is quickly explained.

The bearings are based on an HDB (Hydro-Dynamic Bearing) version, a matt black, simple frame and a rotor made of LCP (liquid-crystal polymer) with 9 blades, which at first glance does not hide any secrets. Nevertheless, Power Logic has optimized it properly (especially the angle of attack) and achieved an amazing result. But more about that in the test. The PWM-controlled fan creates a speed range of up to 2000 rpm and initially starts in semi-passive mode (with fan stop). This is not new either, but a nice-to-have, where the fan does not simply continue to run constantly below 20% PWM.

The decoupling with the attached rubber corners is more a matter of taste, as it rotates slightly when the screw is tightened. Glued would make more sense, but you can do that yourself with a drop of superglue. The gaps and surface finish are very good. The power consumption is quite moderate at full speed of 1.44 watts. There is no RGB, not even at an additional cost. And the price? Unfortunately it is still a secret, or no one has wanted to lean out of the window here in Germany or at the headquarters in Taiwan. I have to send it to you as soon as possible, which also shows that MSI was not directly involved in this. I am now a qualified errand specialist!

On the next page you can see how and what we test and why. Understanding the details is extremely important in order to be able to classify the results objectively later. The differences between many models are more in the details and the best fan for all situations can hardly exist. There is a certain optimum in every situation and of course there are also good all-rounders. But they usually have their price. If you are planning specifically with 60 mm radiators, for example, you can perhaps save money by choosing the best model for your application, which might not do so well as a case fan. And vise versa, of course.
