MSI shows the Twin Frozr V graphics cooler for Geforce GTX 980 and 970

With the same graphics chips from AMD and Nvidia, partner manufacturers can find other ways to stand out. Tailor-made circuit boards and elevated clock frequencies in all glory, what often attracts enthusiasts to a particular model is the radiator, where brands such as Asus DirectCU, Gigabyte Windforce and MSI Twin Frozr are popular options.

Now MSI is showing off a rendering of the fifth generation Twin Frozr cooler. During this year’s Computex, the company showed an early prototype of the device and said that it was intended for the next generation of graphics circuits. Given that the picture clearly shows two SLI connections, the new cooler can be expected to be used first in combination with Nvidia’s upcoming Geforce GTX 980 and 970.

Twin Frozr V should not completely unexpectedly get an improved cooling construction compared to the current Twin Frozr IV. The focus is on increased heat dissipation from the graphics card, in order to primarily let the fans maintain a consistently lower speed and thus lower noise level without the temperatures shining away.

One part of the line low noise level is that the radiator will use a fan not completely different from that used on, for example, Geforce GTX 760 ITX. This means that MSI hopes to achieve better airflow in relation to the sound level by combining the properties of a radial and axial fan. The fans are also ball-bearing for increased durability.

The Nvidia Geforce GTX 980 and 970 will see the light of day in mid-September and more information about MSI’s new coolers is likely to be expected in connection with this.
