A few months ago, the French company Ascendance presented its idea for the VTOL, which very, very much resembled an ordinary plane with a propeller at the front and a pair of propellers in a single wing. After several months of working on the original designs, the company decided to change its approach, and the new design of the VTOL Ascendance hybrid emphasizes this with a vengeance.

Ascendance says the production of this VTOL is scheduled for 2025, with the first public flights taking place in 2024 during the Paris Olympics. The project itself was reportedly implemented in accordance with the requirements of EASA SC-VTOL regulations and includes a hybrid propulsion system in which a jet fuel generator provides power to a total of ten propellers. There will also be an option to replace jet fuel with hydrogen.

The current design of the hybrid VTOL Ascendance includes a total of four wings (two pairs) that combine two propellers (eight in total). They are mainly responsible for vertical take-off and landing, while one propeller at the front and rear (on the T-style tail) is responsible for maintaining speed in level flight. There will be five seats inside.

It is said that this VTOL project will generate “four times less noise than a helicopter” and in the first version will offer a two-hour range of over 400 kilometers, requiring only a 10-minute ground stop after landing, through a quick refueling process. The generator itself is said to provide “a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of up to 80 percent.” About what? We don’t know.
