Nobody and nothing jumps as high as this unique jumper robot with cosmic potential

Where there is no atmosphere, jumping using lower gravity can be an alternative to flying. It immediately brings to mind space exploration, which has already been used in the past, because during the JAXA mission using the Hayabusa2 probe. The latest work from UCSB makes sense, because this unique jumper robot is a project that maximizes its potential to jump to the mathematical limits known to science.

According to the scientists responsible for this unique robot, the fact that this robot is able to jump over 30 metersis a record value that nothing in the world can measure up to. Both a different robot and an animal, all thanks to the unique construction of the robot, which during its jumps accelerates to 96.6 km / h, reaching acceleration forces at the level of 315 G. Such values ​​are the result of complex research and efforts to find the best mechanism jumping and learning about the limitations of animals that are “famous” for this jumping.

Current technology made it possible for the robot’s design to include a jumping mechanism with an almost 100-fold higher ratio of the force gathering element (spring) to the force-generating element (motor). This strange robot consists of a core on top and two carbon fiber wheels that connect rubber bands that extend from a spindle running through the center. In order for the robot to make a jump, the motor drives the spindle, pulling a cable that stretches the rubber bands while compressing the carbon fiber components. The latching mechanism releases this energy to catapult the robot into the sky.
