Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3 cooling test

In addition to the NH-U12S, Noctua also offers the NH-U14S model for the Threadripper. It should be much more efficient and provide low temperatures during operation. Will it really be so?

Appearance

Cooling is packed in a standard carton for the company. Together with it, we receive an instruction, LNA adapter, NT-H1 paste, additional anti-vibration caps and a screwdriver. The assembly itself is trivial and it couldn’t be done easier. The toppings are of high quality and will certainly please you. The warranty is 6 years.

Cooling looks like all the company’s products. It is all silver, but not everyone will like the characteristic colors of the fans. The NH-U14S TR4-SP3 measures 165mm x 150mm x 78mm and weighs 1030g (with fan). The stand is made of a perfect mirror and covers the entire surface of the processor. It has six 6 mm heat pipes. The build quality is great as always.

The included fan is the NF-A15 PWM model. Its maximum speed is 1500 RPM, air flow 140.2 M3 / h and volume 24.6 dBA. Thanks to the LNA adapter, it is possible to limit the maximum speed to 1200 RPM. As the name suggests, the propeller has PWM.

Tests and summary

The cooling positively surprised me in the tests. This is by far the most efficient proposition and will do great even with an overclocked processor. Unfortunately, it was paid for with high volume at maximum speed. Only lowering it to 1200 RPM gives a positive effect, and at 800 RPM it is practically silence.

Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3 costs about PLN 350. It is the most expensive cooling in the list, but also the most efficient so far. It can easily cope with the CPU after overclocking and ensure its low temperatures. Only a working culture at maximum speed could be better. Cooling also presents excellent workmanship, good accessories and simple assembly. Among the Threadripper coolers it is my favorite.
