Novatek plans to launch the first Arctic LNG-2 line in 2023

“I think the first (tanker – ed.) will be, but at the end (next – ed.) of the year, but this does not bother us, because we ourselves planned to launch the first line in December 2023,” Mikhelson said, commenting the announced dates for the first tanker for the fleet “Arctic LNG 2”. Earlier it was reported that the lead gas carrier would be ready in the first quarter of 2023.

According to him, Novatek has already contracted three to four million tons of liquefied natural gas from its share in the project under long-term agreements.

The head of the company also said that Novatek’s EPC contractor Technip was leaving Arctic LNG-2. It will be replaced by NIPIGAZ, Mikhelson emphasized.

In addition, the head of Novatek said that anti-Russian sanctions by the West complicated the implementation of the Arctic LNG 2 project.

“Naturally, we experienced difficulties in connection with the sanctions events. But I can already say with confidence that we practically see how to overcome all these difficulties and how to solve these problems,” he said.

Arctic LNG 2 is Novatek’s second large-capacity liquefied natural gas project after Yamal LNG. The resource base is the Utrenneye deposit in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The project plans to build three technological lines with a capacity of 6.6 million tons each (19.8 million tons of LNG per year).

In addition, Mikhelson pointed out that Yamal LNG partially distributed the volumes of gas accounted for by the contract with the former structure of Gazprom – Gazprom Marketing & Trading. Novatek increased the contract by 0.5, the rest is sold on the spot, he added.
