Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 gets specifications

On Tuesday, Nvidia launched its new flagship Geforce GTX 1080, which with the graphics circuit GP104 became the first out at 16 nanometers. However, this model is just the beginning and the graphics giant has already announced that a slim version at a lower price will be launched in June.

The higher recommended prices for the Geforce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 apply to Nvidia’s reference design Founder’s Edition. Models from partner manufacturers start at the lower price point.

At the time of the announcement, Nvidia was silent about the specifications of the GTX 1070 and only revealed that it would get 8 GB of GDDR5, instead of the GDDR5X used by the new flagship. Now find further details on the web and reveal that the graphics circuit GP104 has been scaled down considerably.

For the GTX 1070, the number of SM clusters is reduced from 20 to 15, which means that a quarter of all CUDA cores and texture units are ironed out. In other words, these are 1,920 CUDA cores and 120 texture units, something that is accompanied by a turbo frequency of ~ 1.6 GHz and a TDP value of 150 W.

Despite the scaled-down specifications, Nvidia has previously stated that the model will perform better than the Geforce GTX Titan X, but then at a much lower price. SweClockers has previously been able to reveal that the recommended price in Sweden lands at SEK 4,999 for the reference model Founder’s Edition, which suggests that the partner manufacturers’ variants will be closer to the SEK 4,000 mark.

The sales start for the Geforce GTX 1070 will take place on June 10.
