But how is the new GeForce RTX 2080 Ti different from the GTX 1080 Ti graphics card? Now that we’ve spent some time with the new graphics card, we’re ready to compare the RTX 2080 Ti versus the GTX 1080 Ti to see how well hardware ray traced graphics cards perform.
Beating the GTX 1080 Ti is no easy task as it is one of the best gaming graphics cards in the world. Of course, we got the RTX 2080 Ti much earlier than we expected from the industry, hence the impression that the update is not so significant in the performance department. Let’s figure it out.
GEFORCE RTX 2080 TI VS GTX 1080 TI: PRICES
The GTX 1080 Ti entered the market on March 10, 2017 with a price tag of $ 699. Even by Nvidia’s flagship graphics card standards, it was very expensive, but for many, the pure gaming performance of the GTX 1080 Ti was worth it.
That is why we did not expect the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti to be cheap, meaning we were a bit prepared for the shocking $ 999 (R65,000) – although it will still be difficult for you to find graphics cards at that price. Instead, most retail stores in Russia will most likely offer you the 2080 Ti at the Founders Edition price, or even exceed the $ 1,199 mark. GEFORCE RTX 2080 TI VS GTX 1080 YOU: CHARACTERISTICS/Specification
The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti offers 3,584 CUDA cores, 224 texture units, and 88 ROPs. It comes to market with 11GB of GDDR5X video memory at 11Gbps, making the Nvidia card the fastest Pascal graphics card available. The GPU clock speed is 1480 MHz in the base and 1582 MHz under load.
Meanwhile, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti has placed 4,352 CUDA cores, 272 texture units, and 88 ROPs. Again 11 GB of video memory, but now it’s GDDR6 at 14 Gbps. The base clock speed of the graphics chip is 1350 MHz, but under load, the frequency rises to 1545 MHz.

GEFORCE RTX 2080 TI VS GTX 1080 TI: PRODUCTIVITY
As we mentioned earlier, it has been a while and it was possible to thoroughly test the RTX 2080 Ti, so we can best compare the performance with the GTX 1080 Ti.
As you can see from the above results, the RTX 2080 Ti offers a decent performance boost over the GTX 1080 Ti in a number of graphics benchmarks. While the performance difference is not that great in those same benchmarks, we’re still talking about the RTX 2080 Ti being the most powerful consumer graphics card in the world.
It is impressive that the RTX 2080 Ti, despite the abundance of cores and technologies, has a lower maximum temperature and power consumption compared to the GTX 1080 Ti, that is, it is not only more powerful, but also more efficient.
Of course, we also wanted to compare the RTX 2080 Ti versus the GTX 1080 Ti in games. In the graphs above, you can see that you are getting about 10 more frames per second playing Total War: Warhammer II.
For playing Middle Earth: Shadow of War (1080p), the difference is even higher, about 30 frames per second.
The RTX 2080 Ti is also much better at 4K resolution. Shadow of War reaches 74 FPS, well above the classic 60 FPS in 4K resolution. Meanwhile, the GTX 1080 Ti can only offer 52fps.

Together with Pascal, Nvidia has unveiled the 16nm FinFET process that improves efficiency, improves transistor density, and improves performance.
The RTX 2080 Ti, however, relies on Nvidia’s new Turing GPU architecture. It was she who made her debut with RT kernels (Ray Tracing), specialized kernels used to calculate how light and sound propagate in a three-dimensional environment at speeds up to 10 Giga-Ray. They should allow Turing GPUs like the RTX 2080 Ti to handle better tracing in real time 25x faster than the Pascal architecture.

As with the Volta, Nvidia Turing is adopting 14 Gbps GDDR6 memory with 18.6 billion transistors versus 11.8 billion Pascal transistors.

WORTH BUYING 2080 TI?
Now that we’ve had enough time to play around with the RTX 2080 Ti, we can properly compare the graphics card to the GTX 1080 Ti. And we are ready to conclude that there is no reason to doubt: the RTX 2080 Ti is the most powerful gaming graphics card that easily outperforms the GTX 1080 Ti.
If you’re looking for cutting-edge technology and performance, then the RTX 2080 Ti is exactly what you need.
That said, the GTX 1080 Ti is still a great graphics card, so if you’re looking to save some money and don’t need to go for slick 4K performance at full graphics settings, then the GTX 1080 Ti deserves your attention.
But what if you already own a GTX 1080 Ti? Should you take the renewal route? We think not. The difference in performance is not as great as the difference in cost. For most people, a GTX 1080 Ti will be more than enough for the next year or more.
Otherwise, you can always sell your GTX 1080 Ti for an affordable price and then use the money to buy an RTX 2080 Ti if you really want the very best graphics card.
