Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 introduces the GA106 circuit after the flagships

New exciting reports regarding Nvidia’s upcoming graphics cards in the Geforce RTX 3000 series feel like a daily occurrence at this point. Last in line reports come from @ kopite7kimi, which states, among other things, that the size of the flagship circuit GA102, intended for the next generation Titan and a potential Geforce RTX 3080 Ti or RTX 3090, ends up at a whopping 627.12 mm².

The smaller circles in the family, including GA104, whose home looks to be the Geforce RTX 3070 series, have only recently begun to appear in the rumor mill. Now you can also see GA106 and GA107, whose design according to the information was completed “a few weeks ago”. The GA106 circuit is believed to drive the Geforce RTX 3060 series, which like today’s RTX 2060 will likely be launched in various variants over time, including Ti and Super variants.

That the GA106 will be a natural replacement for today’s TU106 in the Geforce RTX 2000 series is no big deal. What the segmentation looks like for the Ampere family, however, is not as clear. The current TU106 is found in Geforce RTX 2060 (TU106-300), RTX 2070 (TU106-400) and RTX 2060 Super (TU106-410). Wccftech discusses the possibilities of the GA106-300 being paired with 6 GB of memory in a base version of the Geforce RTX 3060, while an RTX 3060 Ti or Super will be paired with the GA106-400.

The GA107 circuit, on the other hand, will be the entry point in the Geforce RTX 3000 series with price tags in the order of SEK 2,000, and is housed by graphics cards with names like Geforce RTX 3050. Here, an RTX 3050 Ti can also appear to bridge the price gap between RTX 3050 and 3060, a segment that is currently covered by the GTX 1660 Super.

The lower-performing graphics cards in the Ampere family are expected to reach the market far behind the high-performance models. This is because they have recently reached a final taped out design stage, which typically means that several months remain before the products find their way onto the market. Such was the case with the launch of the Geforce RTX 2060, which was launched four months after the big brothers RTX 2070 and 2080 reached the store shelves.

In other words, if the information is correct, it is not likely that the Geforce RTX 3060 models will coincide with the Ampere family’s flagship under the Christmas tree in 2020.
