Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 Ti is delayed – again

There have been many trips around the Geforce RTX 3080 Ti, which in rounds has both been postponed to the future and put in the freezer. Now it is finally clear that Nvidia has decided to launch the graphics card and that its arrival is imminent. Some time ago, a clear launch schedule for the model was reported, something that is once again said to have changed.

This time it is Videocardz who writes that the announcement of the Geforce RTX 3080 Ti has been postponed by almost two weeks, from the original 18 May to 31 May. At the same time, it appears that another model that has been on the wallpaper for a long time, RTX 3070 Ti, will be official the same day. The reason for Nvidia’s changed plans is not clear, but it is probably a matter of having two large products to present to the digital edition of Computex 2021.

There is also a rocking in when media secrecy for the duo is raised and reviews can be published. Now the Geforce RTX 3070 Ti is said to be first in line on June 2, while the tests for the RTX 3080 Ti can be published a week later, on June 9. Completely sonic, the intended sales start for RTX 3080 Ti on May 26 has been abolished and there is still no new date communicated to partners.

On the specification front, the Geforce RTX 3080 Ti will be a graphics card of rank, with performance very close to Nvidia’s flagship and the world’s fastest graphics card – RTX 3090. In terms of the number of CUDA cores and clock frequencies, the model gets almost four percent lower theoretical performance than RTX 3090. give the upcoming newcomer a modest advantage over the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT.

On the memory front, both a small and a large difference is noticeable compared to the Geforce RTX 3090. The width of the memory bus remains the same, 384 bits, and the GDDR6X memory’s effective clock frequency takes a smaller step back from 19,500 MHz to 19,000 MHz. The big difference is instead noticeable in the amount of memory of the RTX 3080 Ti, which is halved from 24 GB to 12 GB.

While the Geforce RTX 3080 Ti takes a real step up from the RTX 3080, the same does not apply to the RTX 3070 Ti compared to its sibling model RTX 3070. This is a minor upgrade on paper as the graphics circuit GA104 is released in its full-featured version with all 48 SM clusters activated, up from 46 pieces on RTX 3070.

With 48 SM clusters, the Geforce RTX 3070 Ti gets 6,144 CUDA cores, 48 RT cores for acceleration of ray tracing, 192 Tensor cores for machine learning and 192 texture units. This is a four percent increase against RTX 3070 and is not expected to account for a major difference in performance per se, but then it should also be mentioned that there is a lack of information on clock frequencies.

What can be expected to make a bigger impression in terms of performance is on the memory front, where the Geforce RTX 3070 Ti takes the step up to 8 GB GDDR6X from 8 GB GDDR6 on the RTX 3070. The effective clock frequency for the memory is believed to land at 19,000 MHz for a bandwidth of 608 GB / s – just over 26 percent higher than 448 GB / s that RTX 3070 with GDDR6 in 14,000 MHz delivers.

The Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 Ti is expected to have a recommended price of USD 1,099, corresponding to just over SEK 11,600 including VAT, which is USD 100 over competing AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT. Some price information about RTX 3070 Ti is not yet known.
