NVIDIA TITAN V - Is it Good for Gaming

NVIDIA TITAN V: Overview | Specification | Is it good for gaming? (Frequency 850 MHz) – This time, NVIDIA decided to arrange a surprise for the computer world, so to speak, on New Year’s Eve. Without any preparatory and intriguing statements, she presented to the public a completely new product – a video card. NVIDIA Titan Vbased on the latest generation graphics architecture Time. Once again, with the announcement of its flagship product, the Californian company is raising the performance bar among graphics accelerators. The presented sample is at the end of 2017 the most powerful single-chip video card in the world.

Based on a new card on a chip GV100, produced using 12nm technology and having more than 21 billion transistors. This core was first presented at the GTC 2017 conference and was the basis of the graphics accelerator Tesla V100designed for use in data centers. The video chip has 5120 CUDA cores, 320 texture units, and 640 Tensor Cores, which increase the performance of matrix calculations and are used in machine learning tasks. The processor of the new video card operates at frequencies from 1200 MHz to 1455 MHz in “overclocking”, and the processing power can reach 15 TFLOPS. The novelty is equipped with 12 GB of video memory interface HBM2, operating at a frequency of 850 MHz, and a 3072-bit bus. This results in a total throughput of 652.8 GB/s.

Nvidia Titan V specs, features, and price

  • Transistors: 21.1 billion
  • CUDA cores: 5,120
  • Tensor cores: 640
  • GPU clock speed: 1200MHz base, 1455MHz boost
  • Memory capacity: 12GB HBM2
  • Memory clock: 850MHz
  • Memory interface: 3,072-bit
  • Total memory bandwidth: 652.8GBps
  • Texture units: 320
  • Power: 250W TDP via 1x 6-pin and 1x 8-pin power connectors
  • Ports: 3x DisplayPort, 1x HDMI
  • Price: $3,000 on Nvidia.com

With amazing performance, no less surprising is the very low power consumption of the Titan V, namely 250 watts. This value is exactly the same as the previous flagship Titan Xp. Thus, NVIDIA once again managed to increase the performance of its products and at the same time reduce energy consumption. The cooling system, like the whole appearance of the novelty, is made in the style of the latest Founders Edition flagships. In the presence of a copper radiator, which has an evaporation chamber at the base, a centrifugal fan and a metal casing with a black and gold color. The adapter needs only two PCI-E Power connectors, and they are 6-pin and 8-pin. The power subsystem consists of 19 phases. The image is output through one HDMI port and three DisplayPort interfaces.

The first owners of NVIDIA Titan V have already shared with the public the results of testing the video card. According to one of the tests in the 3DMark Fire Strike 1.1 benchmark, the new product scored 32744 points when operating at nominal frequencies. As a result of “overclocking”, this figure reached 35990 points. In turn, Titan Xp at standard frequencies in the above test received about 28 thousand points.

Video cards of the Titan series have always been positioned primarily as adapters for professional use, and not as gaming models. And their prices have always been correspondingly high. But if the previous flagship TITAN Xp cost (and still costs) $1,200, then the novelty based on the Volta architecture is estimated at $3,000.

As for ordinary users, the announcement of a new “monster” from NVIDIA allows us to imagine already now what the next models of the GeForce series will be capable of on the new Volta. And the prospects, I must say, are very optimistic.
