Opera GX is now available in the Microsoft Store for Windows 10 and 11
The Opera browser made its debut in the Microsoft Store, along with the Yandex browser, when the Redmond Company announced the new Store experience in September. Last month, Mozilla joined the competition by launching Firefox in the store. Now, Opera has installed its gaming-focused browser, Opera GX, on the Microsoft Store.
The browser is available for Windows 10 and 11. The Microsoft Store version of Firefox uses a different user profile and allows you to run the app alongside the standalone desktop version. However, I gave the Opera GX store app a spin and had no problems with it. If you’re a regular user, you may want to get it from the Store to keep your browser up to date automatically, although the standalone version offers the same convenience. The only advantage is when you are installing the browser from scratch, on a fresh Windows installation, or want to uninstall and reinstall it. Do you want to download Opera GX in the Microsoft Store? Well, you will have to open the store app and search for the browser manually. It seems a bit strange as all other apps have the share button at the bottom/top of the page. Searching for the web store makes it weirder. Until recently, the Microsoft Store was showing irrelevant results for keywords, in particular for the term Firefox, which I highlighted above. The improvements we’ve seen recently to the store app certainly make it more tolerable than the previous version, which was clunky at best. It’s certainly interesting to see more desktop software coming to the Store. We now have Amazon, Epic Games Store, WhatsApp Beta to name a few quality apps that have been released recently. Now that Microsoft has opened up the store to support various frameworks, hopefully more developers will bring their creations to the platform.
