Printed houses all over the street, a unique Texas project

East 17th Street, Texas, is unique. It is there that, along the entire street, there are printed houses, which were created using the latest 3D printing techniques.

Printed houses along the entire length of the street

In this project, created by Logan Architecture, ICON technology was used, and more precisely, the Vulcan system. The main function is played by 3D printers, a remote monitoring system and the one responsible for automatic material preparation and delivery to printing nozzles. It is taking place quickly, as evidenced by the fact that all these houses, ranging in size from 83 to 185 square meters, were printed in just seven days.

Importantly, the 3D printing technology itself is not a manifestation of “fast and sloppy” construction. The current state of technology, whereby printer nozzles spit out a mixture of quick-drying concrete layer by layer, now provides “safer, more resistant homes that are designed to better withstand fire, flood, wind and other natural disasters than conventionally built homes.” At least that’s what ICON proudly claims.

All of these printed homes have covered verandas, covered parking, large and open rooms, and large enough windows to let in just the right amount of light. Of course, printers were only responsible for printing the walls, while windows, doors, water systems and power connections already required the involvement of specialists.
