Radeon RX 5500 XT, is the Navi 14 GPU produced by Samsung? - UPDATED

UPDATE: AMD has released the following statement stating that the RX 5500 range is made by TSMC. The company speaks of the RX 5500, not the Radeon Pro or RX 5300. In short, a statement that seems to reject Fudzilla's information but leaves some glimpse.

“AMD Radeon RX 5500 series is manufactured on TSMC's advanced 7nm process, the same process used for the RX 5700 series and Ryzen 3000 series.”

There GPU Navi 14 aboard AMD's Radeon RX 5500 XT could be made by Samsung and not by TSMC. To write it is the Fudzilla site, which remembers how opting for Samsung could be a good choice based on the rumors that see TSMC in difficulty in covering the high demand for 7 nanometer chips coming not only from AMD on the CPU front, but also from Apple, Huawei and many other realities engaged in the field of artificial intelligence.

Samsung and AMD signed an agreement to design GPUs for smartphones a few months ago and perhaps that relationship has been taken to a higher level.

Fudzilla sources do not say whether the production of Navi 14 GPUs that Samsung would have taken over concerns all the chips: Navi 14 in fact finds its place not only on the dedicated RX 5500 XT cards, but also on the RX 5500M for notebooks and on the Radeon Pro 5500M of the new 16-inch Macbook Pro.

AMD has not officially indicated who makes Navi 14, whether it is Samsung, TSMC or simply if it has decided to allocate orders to both “foundries”.

We only know that there are multiple variants of the GPU in question: one with 22 CU (Compute Unit) active for a total of 1408 stream processors (RX 5500M, RX 5300M, RX 5500 XT), one with 24 CU active for a maximum of 1536 SP (Radeon Pro 5500M) and finally one version still more castrated with 20 CU (1280 SP) in the Radeon Pro 5300M.

Recall that according to rumors, AMD should already present a Radeon RX 5600 XT with 6 GB of GDDR6 memory and 192-bit bus already in January. The “rumors”, however, are not yet completely clear, it cannot be excluded that some details on the matter emerge during the CES 2020 in Las Vegas at the beginning of the year.
