The caching system has also been seriously redesigned, with reduced latency, increased bandwidth and power efficiency of the tiered cache. The full version of Navi 10 contains 40 redesigned compute units that consist of 2560 ALUs, 160 TMUs, 64 ROPs and four asynchronous compute engines. The new GPU also contains a geometry processor with four primitive processing units.

New software technologies

In addition to the hardware, software support is always important – and in the new version of the Adrenalin 2019 Edition drivers, in addition to the previously known AMD Link, Radeon Relive, Radeon Chill technologies, there are also new ones. For example, this is Radeon Anti Lag – a feature that significantly (by 30% or more) reduces the delays between player actions and their display on the screen.

This is especially important for esports applications. According to AMD, with the inclusion of Radeon Anti Lag, in such games, the time between action and display on the screen becomes one third less. Instead of 45-55ms in some games, it turns out 30-37ms, which will be noticeable for high-level players.

AMD does not disclose special technical details of the implementation, but according to the description of the work, it looks like everything is done programmatically in the driver – it slightly slows down the frame queue on the CPU and brings the capabilities of the CPU and GPU into a single whole, which improves responsiveness. Support for adaptive Radeon Image Sharpening has also been announced. In fact, this is a simple post-filter built into the driver for sharpening the image with minimal impact on performance (up to a couple of percent).
