Review of Inno3D Geforce GTX 1650 GDDR6 TWIN X2 OC video card | Specs | Reviews

Graphics cards based on the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 GPU are not new to the market, but with the release of the Nvidia Geforce 1650 Super models with higher bandwidth GDDR6 memory, manufacturers decided to “update” their lineup. As a result, Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 modifications with faster GDDR6 memory can now be found on the market, providing a 1.5-fold increase in memory bandwidth.

For example, the Inno3D company offers just such an option – Inno3D Geforce GTX 1650 GDDR6 TWIN X2 OC.

Packaging and equipment

The design of the box with the Inno3D Geforce GTX 1650 GDDR6 TWIN X2 OC video card is typical for Inno3D products, but for the new modification, you can notice changes in the informational part. The type of video memory used is GDDR6, 128-bit and 4 GB. The video card is shown as a sticker at the bottom left.

Slightly more detailed information about the video card is indicated on one of the ends, also in the form of a sticker, and from it you can understand the set of video interfaces present.

It is worth noting the good protection of the video card, which is in an additional box with side foam rubber.

But the equipment itself is modest. At the bottom of the box there are two leaflets: one is information about the installation and a link to Nvidia’s website for downloading drivers, the second is recommendations for the power supply. For this video card, a 300 W power supply is sufficient.

Appearance

The Inno3D Geforce GTX 1650 GDDR6 TWIN X2 OC video card attracts attention with the presence of a two-fan cooling system and, as the name suggests, has a factory overclocked boost frequency (1635 MHz versus 1590 MHz).

Another thing worth paying attention to is the small size: 196mm (Length) x 116mm (Width) x 2 slots (Thickness). Such dimensions, in principle, allow it to be used in small / HTPC cases, allowing the installation of dual-slot video cards (not low-profile).

This video card does not have a stiffening plate and it is clearly noticeable that the cooling system exceeds the dimensions of the printed circuit board. The sticker placed here tells about the model of the video card, the set of available video interfaces, as well as the week and year of production.

It does not have any backlighting elements (from above, from the sides). Still, it refers more to the budget options, so on one of the ends there is only the inscription Inno3D Geforce GTX. The thickness of the video card is 2 slots.

Unlike conventional graphics cards based on the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 GPU, the GDDR6 version has a 6-pin auxiliary power connector on the back of the PCB. In general, the declared consumption level is 75 W and, potentially, the power supply from the PCI-E slot should be enough, but the manufacturer “insured himself” by reducing the power load on the motherboard.

The presence of different output ports is a pleasure. This modification has DVI-D, HDMI 2.0b, DisplayPort 1.4 ports at the bottom. In this case, the upper part is a ventilation hole for the removal of heated air.

Cooling system

The Inno3D Geforce GTX 1650 GDDR6 TWIN X2 OC graphics card has a relatively small cooling system with two fans.

The design of the radiator is simple – it is completely made of aluminum, the use of heat pipes is not provided. This will be more than enough to cool not the hottest graphics processor Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650. The base of the heatsink is large, since in addition to the graphics processor, memory modules are in contact with it through thermal spacers.

Its peculiarity is that it is an aluminum plate with a large number of low ribs, which has cuts for partial blowing of the printed circuit board.

On the sides of the radiator, a plastic casing with two fans is fixed with four screws.

As for the fans, they are a pair of 85 mm Colorful CF-12915S, which are connected to the board via a 2-pin connector, so RPM monitoring is impossible, and RPM control comes from the board itself.

Printed circuit board

The Inno3D Geforce GTX 1650 GDDR6 TWIN X2 OC video card is based on a reference Nvidia PG166 printed circuit board (the same is used in the Inno3D Geforce GTX 1650 Super Compact model) and some of the elements are not soldered on it either – there are only four memory chips with a total volume of 4 GB (bus width 128 bit).

This video card uses a TU116 graphics processor labeled TU116-150-KA-A1. This is the youngest crystal in the line, in which some of the computational units are disabled up to 896 CUDA cores, 56 texture units and 32 ROP units (less than in the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 Super). The GDDR6 memory chips are from Micron and are labeled 9YA77 D9WCR (operating at an effective frequency of 12000 MHz).

The power subsystem is also well known from the review of the Inno3D Geforce GTX 1650 Super Compact video card due to the identity of the boards – 3 phases using the uPI Semiconductor uP9529P PWM controller and the ON Semiconductor NCP45491 monitoring / current / power regulator chip.

The dimensions of the Inno3D Geforce GTX 1650 GDDR6 TWIN X2 OC video card are determined by the size of its cooling system with two fans and it should be noted that it is relatively small for a two-slot form factor. Due to the length of 196 mm, it does not “crawl” beyond the limits of a typical ATX motherboard, which means it will be compatible with the vast majority of Mid-Tower cases and small cases, including those focused on using ITX-boards in combination with full-format dual-slot video cards.

In the name of the video card Inno3D Geforce GTX 1650 GDDR6 TWIN X2 OC, the manufacturer used “OC”, which means the video card has factory overclocking, although the frequency increase is small, +45 MHz to the boost frequency (1635 MHz). The GDDR6 memory frequency remained unchanged at 12000 MHz.

The use of the GPU also predetermined a small thermal package of 75 W, which is rigidly blocked for increasing, so the overclocking capabilities of this video card should be modest. In this case, the maximum temperature value is limited to 89 ° C.

Under various load FurMark 1.21.2.0 and in games, GPU heating reaches 66 ° C, and the cooling system speed does not exceed 57%.

It should be noted that the cooling system of the Inno3D Geforce GTX 1650 GDDR6 TWIN X2 OC video card operates in a semi-passive mode – the fans do not rotate in the absence of load. As for the heating of the GPU, the temperature reaches 39 ° C.

Noise level

To assess the noise level of the cooling system of the Inno3D Geforce GTX 1650 GDDR6 TWIN X2 OC, we used the MSI Afterburner 4.6.2 utility and a Chinese-made sound level meter (30-130 dB). The minimum recorded value (room without noise sources) was 33.8 dB. The noise level was measured when the video card was running in the Fractal Design Define 7 case with the fans turned off and the Noctua NH-D15 fan speed of 1000 rpm (quiet operation).

As already noted, monitoring the fan speed is not possible, therefore, the values in the diagram are indicated as a percentage of the maximum.

The cooling system for the graphics card with two fans provides a comfortable noise level at up to 40% rpm. Above, the noise from it becomes clearly visible, especially starting at 60% rpm, when the fans are “straining”.

In practice, during testing, the revs did not exceed 60%, so the cooling system should not make “much” noise during daily operation.

Overclocking and power consumption

MSI Afterburner 4.6.2 was used to overclock the Inno3D Geforce GTX 1650 GDDR6 TWIN X2 OC video card. The existing sample demonstrated stable operation with an increase in the GPU frequency by +100 MHz and memory +1000 MHz (effective 14000 MHz). Stability was checked through 3DMark Time Spy Stress Test, FurMark v1.21.2.0 (FullHD, 4xMSAA) for 2 hours, plus work in games.

Since raising the power limit above 75 W is impossible, overclocking did not greatly affect the rise in temperature (68 ° C, the difference is +2 ° C) and power consumption (no more than +4 W). The power consumption of the system from the outlet was measured using an Intertek Cat II (16A) wattmeter.

As testing has shown, a good 300 W power supply will be enough for this video card to work.

Test results

The Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 GPU belongs to budget gaming solutions, so testing was carried out in a resolution of 1920 × 1080 (FullHD) and it is now quite popular.

Synthetic tests

3DMark

Unigine

World of Tanks enCore RT

Synthetic tests respond well to additional overclocking – the performance gain reaches 10.5%.

Games

In games, an increase from overclocking the Inno3D Geforce GTX 1650 GDDR6 TWIN X2 OC video card is also noticeable, but it is more modest (no more than 6%). It is clearly seen that the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 GPU cannot outperform the Geforce GTX 1650 Super even with overclocking, although it demonstrates a good FPS level. Therefore, in the case of this GPU, you will have to “sacrifice” the graphics quality settings in favor of a higher FPS level a little more often.

findings

How is Inno3D Geforce GTX 1650 GDDR6 TWIN X2 OC able to attract?

To begin with, it should be said that it is equipped with GDDR6 video memory and has a factory overclocking, albeit small, but sufficient to get a slight advantage over classmates with an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 GPU. The second point is related to the simple design of the video card without backlighting, which affected the lower cost … Let’s not forget about the length of 196 mm, which allows it to be used in almost any case without any special requirements for the size of the video card. The next point concerns the dual-fan cooling system, which is more than enough to cool the not-hot GPU.

The main drawback, however, is also associated with the video card cooling system. Even if it supports a semi-passive mode of operation, when the fans do not spin during idle, but under load in games, the operation of two fans will be noticeable at 50-60% rpm, and these are exactly the rpm of the fans during testing.

pros

  • Short length
  • Small factory overclocking
  • Good performance in FullHD resolution
  • Efficient two-fan cooling system
  • Semi-passive operation of the cooling system
  • Low power consumption
  • Not a bad price

Minuses

  • Not the quietest cooling system
  • There is no possibility to control the fan speed (rpm)
