The dimensions of the adapter in question are so impressive that the RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC comes in a huge cardboard box. The fact that the video card is factory overclocked is indicated by a label on the front of the package. In addition, the RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC is equipped with RGB LED lighting with ASRock Polychrome Sync technology.

On the back of the packaging, you will find the key features of the RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC. The main emphasis is placed on the cooling system and the accelerator LED backlighting.

Together with the RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC graphics card, the user will find only the user manual.

Appearance and features

The RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC video card can be safely called monstrous, since with dimensions of 330 x 140 x 56 mm it fully deserves it. This graphics adapter feels weighty in the hands. And is it a joke if, according to the manufacturer, the weight of the RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC is ~ 1.8 kg.

If on the front side of the RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC three large fans are the hallmark, then on the back side the eye is attracted by a massive and thick backplate made of metal. It has a few design lines and the manufacturer’s logo.

The upper end of the video card is interesting for the LED backlit module, which is the name of the graphics adapter series. With the available dimensions, the RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC will require three free expansion slots for installation in the system.

The RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC has four connectors for image output. These are three DisplayPort 1.4a and one HDMI 2.1. With them, you can connect up to four monitors at the same time.

The RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC is powered by three 8-pin power connectors. At the same time, the permissible power consumption of the graphics adapter is limited by the manufacturer to 300 watts. To the left of the power connectors is an RGB LED switch that allows you to manually turn it off.

Since the RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC was purchased from the DNS store and is under warranty, the usual parsing of the graphics adapter will not be available this time. However, it is still possible to consider the proprietary cooling system ASRock Phantom Gaming 3X from some angles. It consists of a two-piece heatsink with nickel-plated heat pipes and multiple aluminum fins.

The task of heat pipes is to distribute the removed heat to the aluminum plates as quickly as possible, which in turn are blown through by three axial fans. The cooling system of ASRock Phantom Gaming 3X has the function of stopping the turntables when the GPU temperature is low.

The number of heat pipes for the video card cooling system is six. They are staggered along the body of the radiator.

Comparison with the reference RX 6800 XT

In order to visually assess how the RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC differs from the reference solution, it is worth placing these video cards together. The photo below clearly demonstrates how much the RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC is larger than the regular RX 6800 XT by Sapphire.

The difference is not only in the length, but also in the height of the graphics adapter from ASRock. With its cooling system, the RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC looks like this video adapter is a class higher.

RGB backlight

On the front side of the RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC video card, the central fan is illuminated, but the most expressive RGB lighting is on the upper end of the graphics adapter. At night, this backlight module very brightly and effectively demonstrates the name of the series in the form of the inscription “Phantom Gaming”.

Also on the RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC there is a + 5V RGB connector that allows you to synchronize the backlight of the graphics adapter with the motherboard. However, there is no corresponding cable bundled with a video card to implement such features. Therefore, RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC owners will have to purchase a + 5V RGB connection cable separately.

Temperatures, noise, power consumption and overclocking

The GPU-Z utility correctly identified the RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC graphics card and its main technical characteristics.

When unloaded, the RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC operates at very low GPU temperatures. They do not exceed 38 for GPU and 44 ℃ for GPU Hot Spot. Fully stopped fans on the RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC run the system almost silently.

Warming up the graphics card with Furmark’s 20-minute stress test raises GPU temperatures to 64 ℃ and GPU Hot Spot to 83 ℃. At the same time, the CO fans of the graphics adapter spin up only up to 1700 rpm. With such a speed of rotation of the turntables, the noise from the entire test system does not exceed 38 dBA.

We go to the settings of the Adrenalin 21.5.2 driver and use the tools available there to overclock the video card. The maximum stable value for the GPU RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming D OC is GPU frequency = 2500 MHz.

Run Furmark again for 20 minutes and after this time we look at the temperatures of the GPU and GPU Hot Spot. In my case, they were 66 ℃ and 84 ℃, respectively. At the same time, the rotational speed of the CO fans remained practically unchanged. And the noise from the operation of the entire system remained the same, around 38 dBA.
