Pivot charts and analysis of results
In the first pivot chart, we propose to evaluate the difference in performance between two identical graphics card models in different generations of GPUs. For this, the original Palit GeForce RTX 2080 GameRock Premium will also be contrasted with the original GeForce GTX 1080 represented by the Gigabyte graphics card. The results of the latter are taken as the zero axis, and the Palit indicators are given as percentage gains from it.
On average, in all gaming tests, the advantage of the new generation of graphics processors and video cards was 30.6% in modes without anti-aliasing and 34.4% when it is activated. Quite a good result, it should be noted.
Now let’s compare the performance of Palit GeForce RTX 2080 GameRock Premium and Palit GeForce RTX 2070 Super JetStream.
Here the pre-flagship advantage was about 19% on average across all games. It peaks in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands (+ 33.3%), and its minimum in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (+ 10.5%).
Surely someone will be interested in the difference in performance between the original Palit GeForce RTX 2080 GameRock Premium and the reference NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 in the Founders Edition.
The boost frequency advantage of the Palit video card is only 75 MHz, which, of course, cannot give a large or even noticeable increase. This is what we see in the pivot chart (+ 3.3 ~ 3.6%). Almost twice as much is brought by the overclocking of the GPU and video memory of the Palit GeForce RTX 2080 GameRock Premium. These increases are shown in the latest summary chart to date.
As you can see, a modest overclocking of the GPU by 6.3% and video memory by 12.7% made it possible to increase the performance of the video card on average for all games by 5.2% in modes without anti-aliasing and by 6.1% when activating its various methods. This is not much, but even such an increase will not be superfluous, especially if we switch to 4K resolution, where the video memory bandwidth has a greater influence on the results than in our case.
Energy consumption
The energy consumption was measured using a Corsair AX1500i power supply via the interface Corsair Link and monitoring utility HWiNFO64 version 5.91-3555. The energy consumption of the entire system as a whole was measured without taking into account the monitor. Testing was carried out in 2D mode with normal work in Microsoft Word or Internet surfing, as well as in 3D mode. In the latter case, the load was created using two successive test cycles of the Call of Duty: WWII game according to our method at a resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels with maximum graphics quality settings using anti-aliasing. CPU power saving technologies are disabled in the motherboard BIOS.
Let’s compare the level of power consumption of systems with the video cards tested today according to the results in the diagram.
There were no surprises here. The configuration with Palit GeForce RTX 2080 GameRock Premium in the nominal mode of the video card consumes a little less than the system with the reference version NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 FE, and when overclocked it already a little more. At the same time, even with an overclocked ten-core processor and other peripherals, such a system does not go beyond the power consumption level of 550 watts, so the 650 watts recommended by the manufacturer of the original video card (and NVIDIA itself) can be considered a reassurance. However, there are different configurations …
Conclusion
The Palit GeForce RTX 2080 GameRock Premium is a great example of how to further enhance the graphics card just improved by the GPU manufacturer. We are with you knowhow the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 FE was transformed in comparison with the reference video card of the previous generation, and even then it was said that the manufacturers of original video cards had a serious problem.
But Palit engineers confidently coped with it, making one of the fastest video cards of our time even a little faster, providing an enhanced power system, equipping with a more efficient and quieter cooler, dual BIOS with different microcodes, and customizable backlighting.
Moreover, this model is also cheaper than the reference version. The only thing that can stop you from choosing it is its large dimensions (first of all, thickness). But here you just need to first check everything on your board and in the case, and only then decide whether this model is right for you or not. As for us, we definitely recommend it to wealthy gamers for very fast gaming system units.
