Rosatom supported the efforts of the IAEA to ensure safety at the ZNPP

MOSCOW, 26 Sep — PRIME. Rosatom supports the efforts of IAEA specialists to ensure nuclear safety around the Zaporozhye region, the presence of experts helps dispel speculation about the situation at the plant. This was stated by the general director of the state corporation Alexei Likhachev.

The head of the IAEA spoke about the negotiations on the “safety zone” around the ZNPP

“We welcome the presence at the Zaporozhye NPP site of two employees of the agency on a permanent basis. This decision helps to dispel numerous speculations about the situation at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant,” he said, speaking at the 66th annual session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna.

Likhachev stressed that the Kyiv regime creates direct threats to nuclear security. Ukrainian troops are shelling the ZNPP, sabotage groups are “undermining the pylons of the power transmission line of the Kursk nuclear power plant on the territory of Russia,” the head of Rosatom explained.

In addition, several employees of Rosatom are present at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, Likhachev added. Their goal is, in his words, “consulting and organizational assistance to the ZNPP management in ensuring its safety in this difficult time.”

Likhachev added that the state corporation strongly supports the efforts of the IAEA to ensure nuclear safety and physical protection of Ukrainian facilities.

He also voiced Russia’s principled position on this issue: “Ensuring nuclear safety and physical protection of nuclear facilities and installations is an absolute priority, wherever these facilities are located.”

In addition, the CEO of the company said that the politicization of the activities of a number of international organizations has reached an unprecedented level.

Often there are unfair, sometimes cynical and absurd accusations against the Russian Federation, which go far beyond the statutory activities of these organizations,” Likhachev said.

According to him, it is important that the IAEA maintain a professional and non-politicized approach.
