NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 – application

The NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 graphics card is a unit dedicated to professional users, as evidenced by its price alone – the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 costs about PLN 22,000, but not only the purchase price makes it a good choice for specialist computers and stations working.

The NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 GPU is one of the most efficient professional units in this series – it has 24 GB of GDDR6 RAM memory, and the number of CUDA cores is 4608. The wide memory bus (384 bits) is also noteworthy, which translates into greater card memory bandwidth. These parameters, combined with a fairly high level of core clocking and the computing abilities of this unit, make the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 card work very well in:

  • Professional workstations – it is worth noting that the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 card has an NVLink connector that allows for a possible connection of two cards, which can be used in the most demanding graphics, computing and design works.
  • Specialized graphic design – a high number of CUDA cores, Tensor cores and support for RayTracing provide optimal conditions for working with advanced graphic designs, 3D modeling and creating materials with advanced shading and reflections.
  • Designing in specialized software – the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 card is optimized for use in design programs such as the popular AutoCAD, which means that it uses its computational potential even better to perform specific design tasks. It should also not be forgotten that the card has ECC memory (with error correction).

The NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 graphics system has 4 DisplayPort and 1 USB-C outputs. Therefore, several monitors can be connected to the unit. The maximum supported resolution is 7680 x 4320 (at 60Hz refresh).

The NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 graphics unit is not the top card in its series – we also find the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 8000 GPU model, which is more efficient, but also much more expensive. Despite this fact, the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 model is popular because the parameters of this unit are optimal for professional applications, and the high price in such cases is justified.

NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 graphics is a professional card, so it does not compete with consumer models in the field of computer games. Of course, you can play games on the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000, but for typical gaming applications, one of the top consumer models may be a better solution.

NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 – performance

The technical specification of the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 graphics card alone says a lot about its performance, or at least in theory. This unit has 24 GB of Ram GDDR6 memory, 4608 CUDA cores, is recommended for RayTracing and is equipped with a VirtualLink interface for VR goggles, and when it comes to its computing capabilities, they are also high:

  • For the FP16 calculations, we get the result of 32 TFLOPS.
  • For the FP32 calculations, we get the result of 16 TFLOPS.

The NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 benchmark and the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 gaming test also confirm the high performance of this unit – for example in the currently popular Fortnite game, the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 card will provide 250 FPS at medium settings in 1080p, and 110 FPS at maximum settings in resolution WQHD – this is a similar result as in the test of one of the most popular NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti gaming cards and a result similar to the GeForce RTX 2070 card. It is worth remembering, however, that the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 unit is a system for slightly different applications and is rather recommended to developers games, graphics and software than consumers.

NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 – comparison with other models

Before we decide to buy a card at this price, it is definitely worth looking at alternative solutions. The comparison includes the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 vs 2080 Ti vs GTX 1080 Ti .ParameterNVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000NVIDIA RTX 2080 TiNVIDIA GTX 1080 TiArchitectureTuringTuringPascalCore clockup to 1770 MHzup to 1545 MHzup to 1683 MHz in Boost modeMaximum amount of memory24 GB11 GB11 GBMemory typeGDDR6 with ECCGDDR6GDDR5XCUDA cores460843523584Connectors4 x DisplayPort, 1 x USB-C3 x DisplayPort, 1 x HDMI, 1 x USB-C3 x DisplayPort, 1 x DVI, 1 x HDMIpriceAbout PLN 22,000About PLN 5,700It depends on the variant. The EVGA model with 11 GB of GDDR5X RAM costs PLN 5.5 thousandA card dedicated toprofessional usegraphics and gaming computersPCs for gamers and demanding users.

At first glance, you can see the almost price gap between GTX and RTX consumer cards, and the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 unit. Although it is equipped with larger RAM memory (in addition ECC memory) and offers the highest level of Turbo clocking, it is for individual applications and games, the RTX 2080 Ti model will be a better and more financially viable choice. However, if you are looking for a graphics card for a workstation and professional design, then it is worth taking a look at the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 unit, which has a high number of CUDA cores, 24 GB of GDDR6 ECC memory and is best optimized for design programs, such as the popular AutoCAD .

RTX A6000 and A40

These two new graphics cards use the GA102 chip, which is the same that we can find in the RTX 3080 and 3090, with 48 GB of GDDR6 memory, which goes to 16 Gbps and 14.5 Gbps in the A6000 and A40 respectively. It also has 10752 CUDA cores, and 8-pin EPS connectors.

Both graphics are quite similar, at least with the little technical data revealed by NVIDIA, but one of their main differences is that the A40 uses passive cooling . The A6000 offers about twice the performance of the Quadro RTX 8000 to which it happens, although until we can test them in some analysis we will not be able to verify in which situations this is the case.

In both cases, they are expected to have a consumption of about 300 W, and the graphics will have 4 DisplayPorts. The A40 will have a GPU memory bandwidth of 696 GB / s, while the A6000 has not revealed this data, although it will have PCIe. The size will be the same on both, at 11.1 x 26.67 centimeters (4.4 ”x 10.5”).

At the moment we do not know what price these graphs will have , although we do know that they will arrive at different times on the market. The A6000 is scheduled to launch in December 2020, while the A40 will arrive in early 2021, although with a date yet to be specified.
