Russia and Turkey to continue planned work at Akkuyu NPP

ANKARA, Sep 3 – PRIME. Presidents of Russia and Turkey Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a telephone conversation confirmed their intention to adhere to the work plan at the Akkuyu nuclear power plant. This was told in the office of the Turkish leader.

Putin and Erdogan discussed the implementation of the “grain deal”
“President Erdogan and Russian President Putin reaffirmed their firm determination to ensure that the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant proceeds as planned,” the statement said.
In addition, Erdogan announced Ankara’s readiness to act as a mediator in resolving the situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
Akkuyu NPP – with four units and Russian reactors – will be the first Turkish nuclear power plant. It is assumed that the nuclear power plant will generate about 35 billion kilowatt-hours per year and provide up to ten percent of Turkey’s electricity needs.
