Ryzen 9 4900H and Ryzen 7 4800H: APU with 8 cores and 16 threads coming from AMD

The CES 2020 of January is approaching and with him filter various rumors concerning the new ones APU Ryzen 4000, based on Zen 2 architecture and produced at 7 nanometers, which AMD is preparing to introduce. After the Ryzen 7 4700U with 8 cores and 15 watts TDP, information has emerged in these hours two H series products featuring a 45 watt TDP: Ryzen 9 4900H and Ryzen 7 4800H.

Both solutions should offer 8 cores with SMT, for a total of 16 threadsthus doubling the number of cores and maximum threads offered by the Ryzen 3000 APUs – the Ryzen 7 3750H has 4 cores and 8 threads. Intel, for its part, has already offered mobile processors with 8 cores and 16 threads for several months, such as the Core i9-9980HK capable – cooling allowing – of accelerating up to 5 GHz.

The two new AMD solutions should offer similar performance to the Core i9-9980H and not deviate much from the Core i9-9980HK, despite frequencies (still unknown) which should still be lower, thus demonstrating the excellent foundations represented by the Zen 2 architecture, in can compensate for the lower clock.

Rumors from China say that Ryzen 4000 APUs should consume less than Intel’s proposals, but the high chip density could lead to higher temperature peaks and therefore to the need to equip notebooks with more elaborate cooling systems.

In addition to the Ryzen 9 4900H and the younger brother Ryzen 7 4800H, the existence of one is mentioned APU called Ryzen 7 4800HS on board an Asus laptop called GA401IV. The 4800HS is expected to be a version of the 4800H optimized to consume less, so it will likely run at lower frequencies.

There will also be gods Ryzen 5, and among these are the names 4600 and 4600HS. At the moment the characteristics – cores and threads – are unknown, but there are those who assume that they will have 6 cores and 12 threads, such as the Ryzen 5 3000 desktop.
