Samsung will show off its next-generation 3nm chip technology to US President Biden

Samsung reports that it will show its next-generation technology to US President Joe Biden, when he visits the Korean giant’s Pyeongtaek campus this week.

The US president will tour different parts of South Korea and that visit will include a tour of Samsung’s facilities in Pyeongtaek. Samsung Vice President Lee Jae-yong is said to accompany him on the tour to show off the next-generation mass production process.

For some time, it has been reported that the company has already started mass production of its 3nm Gate-All-Around (GAA) technology, surpassing its 4nm nodewhich was used to mass-produce Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

Greater 3nm GAA advantages compared to Samsung’s 5nm process, and the company claims it enables up to 35% size reduction while delivering 30% higher performance and 50% power savings.

According to statistics presented by TrendForce, TSMC took 52.1 percent of the global foundry market, followed by Samsung with 18.3 percent, in the fourth quarter of last year. An earlier report mentioned that Samsung was struggling with its 3nm GAA processsince the rate of return was supposedly worse than that of its 4nm technology.

Samsung is expected to start mass production of its advanced chip technology soon, so we’ll see how it fares against what TSMC brings to the table.
