Sapphire launches Radeon RX 460 Nitro OC with full-featured Polaris 11

With the launch of the Polaris architecture, AMD was clear that only two graphics circuits would be launched. These were the Polaris 10 for the Radeon RX 480 and the scaled-down RX 470, as well as the entry-level model Polaris 11 for the RX 460. However, the latter was released without all computing units activated.

The Radeon RX 460 available for purchase today has 896 stream processors, despite the fact that the Polaris 11 houses a total of 1,024 units. This has led many to speculate that the company has planned a more powerful “RX 465”. Now, however, Sapphire is launching an RX 460 with full-scale Polaris 11 for the Chinese market.

The model is called Sapphire Radeon RX 460 Nitro OC and is apparently identical to the original variant. The only appearance that reveals that it is a full-scale Polaris 11 is the package with the print “1024SP”, which is short for 1,024 stream processors.

While the Sapphire variant has a clock frequency of 1,250 MHz for the graphics circuit, AMD’s reference design is believed to remain at the same level as the original Radeon RX 460, ie 1,200 MHz. That would correspond to a performance increase of 14 percent and that it has better conditions to go up against Nvidia’s Geforce GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1050.

When and if AMD plans to release Polaris 11 in the rest of the world is not yet known.
