Scythe Kotetsu Mark II TUF in the test – colorful branding twin

In the case of cheap air coolers with a real coldplate instead of a direct-touch heat pipe, the selection is quite limited, but Scythe has one of the few candidates on offer with the Kotetsu Mark II in the “normal” and Asus TUF variants. The following article tells you how the little brother of the already tested Fuma 2 fares in the test …

Packaging / scope of delivery

As with the other Scythe coolers, the entire packaging, apart from a small pad made of foam to pad the cooling fins, is made entirely of cardboard. Plastic bags are also used sparingly; there is not much rubbish left after unpacking. The outside of the box is printed extensively in black, in addition to the specifications, there are also various accents in Asus TUF yellow.

The accessories are limited to the bare minimum: mounting brackets, fan clips, and a sad blob of thermal paste. The Intel backplate is already prepared, screws and plastic fixings have already been attached in the factory. A quick installation guide is of course also included.

Assembly / installation

As is so often the case, the existing backplate is used for the AM4 socket; the two silver brackets are mounted with four rubberized spacers and screws. The two spring-loaded screws are fixed in the brackets with a screwdriver, then the fan is fastened again with the enclosed clips.

The cooler is well made and has a slightly asymmetrical design. The edges of the cooling fins are deburred, but still a bit rough. You should also proceed with a bit of care during assembly, the slats bend easily.

Even if the Kaze Flex 120 fan has RGB lighting, the yellow rubbers do not fit into every system. Operation without it should also be possible, but the fan is then a bit looser and is no longer decoupled. The normal Kotetsu Mark II unfortunately lacks the black finish on the top.
