Shopify Announces Strategic Partnership with CoinPayments

Canadian Shopify partnered with the startup specializing in cryptocurrency payments CoinPayments. Shopify merchants can now accept more than 1800 digital assets as a means of payment.

The e-commerce specialist Shopify continue to explore the payment in cryptocurrency following a partnership established with the young shoot based in the Cayman Islands CoinPayments.

While Shopify already allowed its merchants to take over payments in Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, DAI, Ethereum, Litecoin and USD Coin via Coinbase Commerce, this new collaboration offers the possibility to its users to accept over 1800 different digital coins.

The combination of Shopify and CoinPayments is unstoppable in the payments industry. By combining our global crypto payments platform with Shopify's large merchant base, we are eager to provide a seamless process for anyone wishing to do business using cryptocurrencies, ”said Jason Butcher, CEO of CoinPayments.

Today's announcement follows the success of an initial test between the two entities initiated in 2019. It will in particular strengthen the cross-border payments on Shopify by avoiding merchants from having to work with several payment processors to cover all jurisdictions.
