In early 2021, Spotify announced that it was going to introduce a HiFi subscription plan, in addition – it was to happen by the end of the year. It’s January and there are still no news. When can it be expected?

In February last year, Spotify presented its plans for 2021. One of the novelties was to be the HiFi plan, offering music in CD quality and in a lossless format. The plans were great, because the service was to start still that year, but as we know well – nothing came of it.

What’s happening with Spotify HiFi?

According to the website 9to5mac, the HiFi plan is being developed and work on it is still ongoing. However, there is no specific implementation date given. We know that at the beginning the plan assumed that it would be a new subscription plan, for which even premium users will have to pay extra, as it is, for example, on TIDAL. In the meantime, Apple Music decided to introduce a lossless and spatial audio format for all its users, which reportedly caused Spotify to postpone the premiere and resumed our work with the service.

On its community website, Spotify announced:

We know that HiFi sound quality is important to you. We feel the same and are excited to be able to offer Spotify HiFi to Premium users in the future. But we don’t have details of the schedule yet to share.

Of course, we will let you know here when it is possible.

So it looks like HiFi will be an addition to the current Premium plan, which could mean price increases. This, in turn, is unlikely to appeal to many users who prefer a lower price and do not need such an audio experience.
