Test – Cryorig M9i – Conseil Config
| Specs | Price

Hi all!

We are continuing the tests of Cryorig coolers with the smallest tower type today, I named the M9! Two versions are available, an AMD version (the M9a) and an Intel version (the M9i), it is the latter that I will present to you. On the program a 12.4 cm high radiator and maximum compatibility with surrounding components, always keeping the excellent manufacturing quality that characterizes the brand.
Offered at a recommended price of 26.99 € HT, it is designed to replace the original cooler while having better performance, whether in terms of temperatures or noise pollution, and in the vast majority of boxes, it could be a good alternative if the results are convincing!

As usual at Cryorig the box is sober and very classy, which gives the impression of having a quality product. On the front is a photo of the product accompanied by the logo of the brand and a little note saying that the M9i is designed to combine compatibility and performance.
At the back and as usual we find the technical characteristics of the beast, dimensions, weight, compatible sockets etc ..

Cryorig_M9_boite3Cryorig_M9_boite4

On the side a small listing of the strengths of the M9i, namely a proprietary system supposed to accelerate the air flow thanks to the Jet Fin Acceleraiont System technology, full compatibility with the different memory modules as well as an easy installation in 4 minutes .

Cryorig_M9_boite5Cryorig_M9_boite6

When opening the box we come across the word that we now know well at Cryorig which says that it is possible to have a 3-year warranty extension by registering the product on the site, which does not cost nothing and is still good to take advantage of a total of 6 years warranty (like Noctua). Cryorig_M9_bundle

The Cryorig M9i bundle consists of:

  • 1 Cryorig M9i cooler
  • 1 installation manual
  • 1 Intel Universal Mounting Plate
  • 1 tube of thermal paste
  • 2 fasteners for an additional fan accompanied by rubber bands
  • The necessary screws / plates

As we can see the bundle is more than enough to plug the beast, everything is including the thermal paste tube as well as fasteners for an additional fan and even rubber bands to dampen any vibrations of the latter.

The least we can say is that the M9i from Cryorig is really a very compact beast with its 12.46 cm high, 10.2 cm wide and 8.7 cm deep, it is clear that it should not interfere with the first PCIe port nor memory. The weight is also very contained with its 425 grams.
Intel version requires it is logically compatible only with these, but especially only with 115x type sockets, at the same time seeing the maximum TDP of 120 Watts it could not be compatible with the 1366 and 2011-3 for example, the 775 is now ancient history.
In terms of cooling Cryorig has equipped its beast with 3 nickel-plated copper heat pipes 6 mm thick, supported by 40 aluminum fins. The fan that will have to cool all this small assembly is a 9.2cm model running at a speed between 600 and 2200 RPM for maximum noise pollution of 26.4 dB, this should be enough to keep the processors in acceptable temperatures, as long as they’re not overclocked too much.
Offered at a price of around € 32 including VAT, it will have a lot to do, however, competition is fierce here, but the build quality and its small size could work in its favor, let’s see it all more closely!

Cryorig ensures easy assembly and even displays a time of less than 4 minutes on the box, the brand has also made a Youtube video to show the speed of installation, as here:

We can see that the assembly is really very fast and easy, I will still detail the different steps to follow. First we will prepare the back plate of the motherboard:

Cryorig_M9_montage1

As we can see there are 2 different holes, only those closest to the center will be used, it is marked that there are 3 positions but this is most certainly a residue of the other coolers of the brand. In short, you must have these 4 screws:

Cryorig_M9_ Montage2

They must be inserted into the holes provided for this purpose, like this:

Cryorig_M9_ Montage3

Now that the back plate is ready, it’s time to insert it into the motherboard:

Cryorig_M9_montage4

Then you have to place the 2 fixing plates in this way, the cooler can be oriented either towards the top of the case or towards the back, the best placement is towards the nearest fan, so in my case the back of the case :

You must then place the 4 nuts to fix the plates and put a little thermal paste in the center of the processor, be careful not to add a little otherwise you will not have the expected results:

Cryorig_M9_montage6

We’re coming to the end! Then simply place the heat sink on the processor (without the fan) and secure it using the 2 preinstalled screws:

Cryorig_M9_ Montage7

Then we put the fan back in place, that’s it! Well done the cooler is installed!

Cryorig_M9_montage_fini

Cryorig had promised a quick installation in less than 4 minutes and the bet is once again successful, the M9i installs really very quickly and without worry. It’s time to see the compatibility with the surrounding components, even if at first glance it shouldn’t be a problem it costs nothing to take a look.

Memory / PCIe compatibility

Cryorig_M9_clearance_memoire

The memory is not affected by the cooler, it will be possible to install the most eccentric (and unnecessary) strips on the market!

Cryorig_M9_clearance_pcie

The first PCIe port is also spared, any graphics card can be installed without the slightest problem, even with a thick plate on the back.

The test platform

The Cryorig M9i has been tested on the configuration below:

  • Processor: Intel Core i7 875K @ 3,2 Ghz
  • Motherboard: Asus P7P55D
  • Memory: Kingston HyperX 4 x 2 Go 1600Mhz
  • Hard disk: WD Raptor 150 Go
  • Graphic card: Sapphire Toxic 5850
  • Food: Seasonic X650

The test protocol

The core i7 875K has been slightly overclocked to 3.2Ghz. The temperatures under load are an average of all the cores for 3 tests of 30 minutes on OCCT, the temperatures at rest were taken after 15mins on the desk (still an average of the 4 cores).

The cooler has been tested against:

  • be quiet! Pure Rock (tested here)
  • Cryorig H7 (tested here)
  • Noctua NH-U9S (tested here)
  • Noctua NH-D15 (tested here)
  • SilentiumPC Fera 2 (tested here)
  • SilentiumPC Fortis 3 (tested here)

The choice of coolers is not random, given the small size of the beast and the price it will be placed in front of the coolers of its category (often a little larger, however), namely the be quiet! Pure Rock, Cryorig H7, Noctua NH-U9S, SilentiumPC Fera 2 as well as the SilentiumPC Fortis 3, the be quiet! The monstrous NH-D15 being the most powerful cooler it is interesting to put it in the comparison.

The temperatures

Cryorig_M9_results_temperatures

As we can see despite the small size of the M9i it is able to cool without the slightest problem the slightly overclocked Core i7 875K of the test configuration, in PWM it reaches a small 61 ° against 58 ° once the fan is fully powered. On the other hand once set to the minimum it has a lot of trouble cooling the heat of the processor and the temperature reaches 85 °, the result is only here as an indication, the M9i is clearly not designed to cool a processor with ventilation at a minimum anyway.

Noise pollution

Attention : Part to be taken with a grain of salt, unfortunately not having access to adequate equipment and using an android application to take the readings the measurements below are only indicative! The readings were taken 15cm from the cooler. The ambient sound level recorded is 31 dB.

Cryorig_M9_resultats_level_sonore

In terms of noise pollution, the results are also very good, with a maximum of 39 dB in PWM mode, it will be very discreet in a configuration, most certainly covered by the noise emitted by the graphics card. In 5V the 9.2 cm fan rotating at a speed of 600 RPM is inaudible, once supplied with 12V the sound level rises to 42 dB, which even if very clearly audible is not that high.
Regarding the “quality of the sound emitted by the fan it is really very good, whether it is at the minimum or at the maximum there is no trace of parasitic noise coming from the fan, which makes it rather pleasant to use. ‘hear.

Cryorig_M9_devant_random

Here we are at the end of this test, what to say about this Cryorig M9i?
After the disproportionate coolers Cryorig attacks the entry level with a compact M9i designed to replace the original solution sold with the processors by having better performance and a lower noise level. Suffice to say that the bet is successful here, its size allows it not to interfere with the surrounding components, the manufacturing quality is at the level of what we usually find at Cryorig namely excellent, the performances are more correct and the sound level is very contained!
Offered at a price of around € 32 including VAT, it fits in with slightly larger coolers such as the Fera 2 or the be quiet! Pure Rock which offer slightly better performance but may pose concerns in more narrow cases and clearly do not have the same quality of manufacture. The M9i will therefore be a perfect companion for those who are looking for a very well-finished, compact cooler capable of cooling a processor without the slightest problem in an appreciable silence, as long as it is not overclocked!

The +

  • Cut
  • Performance (relative to its size)
  • Build quality
  • PCIe / memory compatibility
  • 3 + 3 years warranty

A big thank you to Cryorig and Andy who allowed me to do this test.
