Back at In Win today with the brand’s latest case, in mini-ITX format, I named the Chopin! As usual with the brand, there is aluminum there, this time in the form of a large 4 mm thick plate covering 3 of the 4 sides. The chopin is not like all the boxes that can be found at In Win, it is designed for a configuration without graphics card, designed for office automation and in very small spaces.

On top of that In Win has added a 150Watt 80Plus Bronze certified power supply, all priced at around € 90, it should be a great choice for anyone needing a very small enclosure, if results tests are conclusive!

The In Win Chopin is available in 2 colors, black or silver, however this only applies to the aluminum part all around the case, the rest remaining black. It is made up of a 4 mm thick aluminum plate and steel (the whole frame as well as the side panels). As I did not say above it is only compatible with motherboards in mini-ITX format, without expansion slot and without fan, if the goal is to make a game configuration then the Chopin is not for you !

The dimensions go with all this, namely 21.7 cm deep, 24.4 cm high and 8.4 cm wide, a small case that will therefore find its place almost everywhere without the slightest problem! With thicknesses like this it is obvious that it will not be possible to install a very high CPU cooler, there is only 4.3 cm high so the choice is rather limited and you will have to be careful otherwise end up with a cooler that protrudes from the box and the inability to put the side panel back in place. Small box also says reduced weight, with its 2.2 kg you will not break your back to transport it.

On the peripheral side, there isn’t a plethora of choices either, In Win offers 2 2.5 ″ slots in its Chopin, and that’s it! It is therefore very obvious that the box has been designed to install an SSD, or a 2.5 ″ hard drive, but I would however advise against this use, whether because of the heat which will be very difficult to evacuate or even due to vibrations which could have a negative impact.

The supplied power supply is a 150 Watts 80Plus Bronze certified, the format is customized by In Win, it should largely suffice for an office PC (even with a Core i7).

Offered at a price of around 90 € there is no real competitor on the market, especially for a box delivered with a power supply, let’s see the beast more closely!

In_Win_Chopin_box1
In_Win_Chopin_boite2

We can say that as usual at In Win there is no extravagance, and that’s good! The cardboard could not be more sober with the name of the model on one side and the logo of the brand on the other, no pompous marketing.

In_Win_Chopin_boite3
In_Win_Chopin_boite4

On the sides there is a summary of all the technical characteristics of the beast as well as a listing of its strengths, only useful data here!

In_Win_Chopin_boite5

Inside the box we find the box packed in its plastic bag and sandwiched between 2 foam molds, transport should not be a problem.

In_Win_Chopin_bundle

The bundle consists of:

  • 1 x Chopin box + its power supply
  • 1 x power cord
  • 1 x adapter 1 x Sata -> 2 x Sata
  • 2 x 4 colored stickers to personalize the case
  • The necessary screws

The Chopin bundle is sufficient for the installation of a complete configuration without the slightest problem, at the same time there is no room for a lot of things inside so it is not very complicated 😉 On the program the cord to connect the power supply to the mains, an adapter 1 x Sata to 2 x Sata to power 2 peripherals inside the tower (the power supply has only one connector) as well as of course the screws.

In Win has nevertheless added a small touch of personalization with its colored (plastic) stickers which are placed at the level of the connectors and in the same place on the other side of the case, nothing obliges you to use them but this will add a little touch of color if the need arises.

In_Win_Chopin

Here is the beast! Sobriety is the key word here, a thick 4mm brushed black aluminum plate covers the underside as well as the front and top, this adds a high-end side to the thing. As we can see In Win has also thought about ventilation because there is no active ventilation, a large grid covers the motherboard side as well as the top. Let’s take a closer look at all of this.

In_Win_Chopin_exterieur_dessus

Here as I said, a large ventilation grid covers a large part of the side panel, it is fixed by a screw and a tab that will have to be lifted to then remove the panel. The build quality is very good, as usual with In win.

In_Win_Chopin_exterieur_connectique

2 USB 3.0 ports as well as 2 3.5mm jack connectors for a microphone and headphones are present.

In_Win_Chopin_exterieur_dessous

On the other side, another panel displaying the brand’s logo as well as 2 small ventilation grilles placed in front of any peripherals.

In_Win_Chopin_exterieur_cote1

Not much to say on the front, it is entirely in black brushed aluminum with the logo in silver, sober when you hold us!

In_Win_Chopin_exterieur_cote4

Above a ventilation grid is present in the middle of the brushed aluminum, this will be perfect to evacuate the hot air from the case upwards.

In_Win_Chopin_exterieur_cote3

In addition, once again, the aluminum plate 2 large rubber pads are present in order to isolate any vibrations of the case.

In_Win_Chopin_exterieur_cote2

At the back in addition to the classic opening for the I / O plate of the motherboard there is the power supply and its connector as well as covers for the installation of wifi antennas or accessories sold separately by In Win ( additional USB ports for example).

In_Win_Chopin_interieur

Inside we can see that given the dimensions of the case everything is well packed, there is just room for the mini-ITX motherboard, the small power supply is on the right. A few small holes are available to pass the cables from the front to the back of the motherboard (the Sata cables for power and data).

In_Win_Chopin_alimentation

There is of course a sticker on the power supply showing the power distribution, the 3.3V, 5V and 12V combined can provide a maximum of 141 Watts, which should not be a problem for a motherboard and a processor.

In_Win_Chopin_interieur_dessous

At the rear we find the 2 slots for 2.5 ″ discs, one on the left and one on the right.

In_Win_Chopin_connectique

The internal connection could not be more classic, the buttons as well as the LEDs on the front, the audio and the USB 3.0 connector.

In_Win_Chopin_alimentation_cables

The power supply offers 1 x 24-Pin, 1 x 4 + 4-pin processor, 1 x Sata and 1 x FDD, enough to power the configuration without worry (I remind you that a 1 x Sata -> 2 x Sata adapter is provided in the bundle).

The configuration used during the tests is as follows:

  • Processor : Intel Core i5 655K @ Stock
  • CPU Fan : Noctua NH-L9i
  • Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-H55N-USB3
  • Memory : Kingston HyperX 1 x 4 GB 1866Mhz
  • SSD : Crucial MX200 250GB
  • Operating system : Windows 10 64bits

The box being very restrictive in terms of the cooler, I brought the NH-L9i out of its slumber, so there will be no boxes competing with the Chopin in the tests because none have been tested with this cooler.

In_Win_Chopin_montage1

As you can see the space available being very limited the assembly must be done carefully, there is a little room around the motherboard to pass the cables but you have to go slowly to make everything fit. In the end, once the configuration is mounted in the In win Chopin, the processor has enough space to breathe, which is the main thing!

In_Win_Chopin_montage2

Nothing to report on the back, the SSD is very easy to install and the Sata power supply cable is long enough.

In order to test the box, I will carry out an OCCT Power Supply test for 30mins and then take the temperatures of the main components such as the processor (average of the 4 cores), the motherboard, the graphics card as well as the hard drive. Since there is no mechanical hard drive or fan slot there will only be one test.

Regarding noise pollution, I will proceed as in the file on silent PCs namely 1 raised in front, to the right, to the left, to the rear and above with the box in vertical position.

Testing

In_Win_Chopin_resultats_repos_temperatures

The temperatures at rest in the Chopin are good, without of course reaching what one would expect from an actively ventilated case but there is no problem with 36 ° for the processor and 44 ° for the motherboard.

In_Win_Chopin_resultats_repos_nuisances_sonores

Ambient sound level: 31dB

As far as noise pollution is concerned, however, the Chopin is of course excellent, the absence of a mechanical hard drive entirely removes concerns about vibrations and only the processor fan dictates the results. Since the NH-L9i’s fan is very quiet when idle, the only reading exceeding ambient level is on the left side facing the motherboard. To summarize, the Chopin at rest will be inaudible if there is no hard disk installed, and the cooler is of high quality.

In_Win_Chopin_resultats_repos_PWM

The NH-L9i’s fan spins here at 1000 RPM when idle, nothing too bad for a 9.2cm fan.

Charge

In_Win_Chopin_resultats_charge_temperatures

In load the temperature climbs logically, to arrive at 67 ° for the processor and 60 ° for the motherboard, nothing very worrying knowing the small size of the cooler. The Chopin thanks to its huge grid in front of the motherboard allows the cooler to easily suck air from the outside and the processor, which allows it to cool the processor without problems.

In_Win_Chopin_resultats_charge_nuisances_sonores

Ambient sound level: 31dB

The fan of the cooler running logically faster than at rest the sound level increases just as logically, we arrive at a maximum of 36 dB on the left side (where there is the grille in front of the motherboard and the cooler), we can say that even in charge the Chopin will not be annoying, fortunately moreover when one works or that one watches a film!

In_Win_Chopin_resultats_charge_PWM

The fan with its 1500 RPM does not turn at its maximum capacity (2500 RPM), which is why noise pollution is contained.

In_Win_Chopin_random

Here we are at the end of this test, what about the In Win Chopin box?
The choice of a mini-ITX box being rather difficult, there are more and more products on the market and all are clearly not made for the same use. When some people are looking for a mini-ITX box for a game configuration (as you can see on my dedicated file here) others on the contrary will look for something for office automation and video playback on the living room TV for example. Need different different configurations and case that must adapt to all of this.

In Win offers with its Chopin a compact solution for an office PC or HTPC allowing without the slightest worry to accommodate a small configuration, the integrated power supply means you don’t have to worry about finding a compatible one. The build quality is as usual with the brand excellent, the design is rather and classy thanks to its large aluminum plate and the performances are very honorable thanks to the ventilation grilles.

The only small thing that I could blame the Chopin for is the limitation in the CPU cooler level, indeed with 4.3 cm maximum you will have to be careful otherwise you will not be able to put the side panel back, but nothing too bad if you have done your homework.

Offered at a price of less than 90 € with the power supply, it is clear that the In Win Chopin will delight people looking for a box to put next to their TV all this without breaking the bank, it has to date not very much competitors.

Advantages

  • Compact
  • Build quality
  • Aluminum
  • Power supply supplied as standard

A big thank you to Katerina from In Win who allowed me to do this test.
