Test – MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon
| Specs | Price

Hi all!

Back at MSI today with a motherboard that can accommodate the very latest processors from AMD on socket AM4, the X370 Gaming Pro Carbon! The range of motherboard from AMD is divided into 3 chipsets, the A320 (entry level), B350 (mid-range) and X370 (high-end), it is the latter which is installed on the motherboard of the test today. On the program, a card intended for “gamers” (if we can dedicate a motherboard to that ..) with of course overclocking, multi-GPU and all that goes well.
Offered at a price of around 175 € it is placed at the entry level for this type of product, let’s see if it has everything it takes to meet the expectations of the greatest number 🙂

The X370 Gaming Pro Carbon is therefore a motherboard in standard ATX format of 30.4 x 24 cm, no problem to install it in any ATX box. It is equipped with the latest chipset from AMD, the X370, compatible with Ryzen processors and when they are available the A and Athlon. Note that unlike Intel, which restricts overclocking functionality to the Z chipset only here in addition to the X370, it will also be possible to do so on motherboards equipped with the B350 chipset, which is a good thing.
The motherboard is compatible with DDR4 memory modules, ranging from a base speed of 2133 MHz to over 3200 MHz depending on the model. Be careful, however, to look at the compatibility list on the manufacturer’s website (here for the X370 Gaming Pro Carbon) so as not to end up with a system that will not start 😉
The X370 Gaming Pro Carbon has 3 16x PCIE ports, of which only 2 are in version 3.0, one is wired in 16x and the other in 8X (8x / 8x in the context of a multi GPU configuration) Crossfire and SLI compatible. There are also 3 PCIe 1x ports for the various potential expansion cards.
In terms of storage, there are 6 Sata 6Gb / S ports from the AMD chipset, managing RAID 0/1/10 as well as 2 x M.2 compatible PCIe 4x or Sata 6 Gb / s. Note that restrictions apply when using M.2 ports, indeed some Sata ports may be unavailable, as you can see in the screenshot below:

As you can see if for example an M.2 SSD is installed in M2_1 as well as another in Sata in M2_2 the Sata 3 port will be unavailable, not a lot of restrictions here but it should be noted!
The network is entrusted to an Intel I211-AT Gigabit controller, a good thing because it is better than RealTek. The audio chip is entrusted to RealTek with its ALC ALC1220 model accompanied by high-end audio capacitors which should prove more than sufficient as long as one is not an advanced and particularly demanding user.
Offered at a price of around € 175, it has everything everyone will need for a configuration, even when loaded, let’s see if it keeps its promises!

As usual at MSI, marketing has its word here, in fact instead of what one might expect on the front of a motherboard box, i.e. a photo of said card mother here we find a racing car! On top of that we have a little gauge showing that the counter goes up well in the towers and that the X370 Gaming Pro Carbon gets 5 stars for performance in games, whatever that may say Of course the model name is when same present as well as the name of the chipset used.
At the back a photo of the beast with a listing of the strong points and a small table of technical characteristics.

Inside we fall directly on the motherboard in its antistatic bag, the bundle is as usual just below!

In terms of the bundle MSI provides here the manual, a driver DVD, a sticker plate to mark the Sata cables, the I / O plate of course, an SLI bridge, an extension for LED strips as well as 2 Sata cables, as usual it is a pity not to find at least 3 Sata cables.
