Test – Streacom F7C Alpha Specs | Price | CPU | Profitability | Hashrate | best Coins | Config | Advantage (Pros) and Disadvantages (Cons) and other important features that will help you make better decision.

Today sounds the entry of products from Streacom to Conseil Config! The brand is clearly not very well known in France, since 2010 it has been offering high-end boxes particularly suitable for passive cooling and all in aluminum. The model I am going to present to you is the F7C Alpha, under this name hides an all-aluminum mini-ITX case and with an expansion slot in “low profile” format.

Found around 90 € (when it is found) the F7C Alpha is clearly not positioned in the entry level, but the all aluminum and the finish which should be high end can explain such a price, let’s see that from closer!

The F7C Alpha from Streacom is therefore a box compatible with motherboards in mini-ITX format, on the dimensions side with its 25 cm deep, 24 cm wide and 10 cm high it is one of the most compact boxes on the market. Its weight of 2.1 kg clearly indicates that the aluminum used is thick, otherwise it will be much lighter than that, without having seen it we know that it will be solid.

Despite its small size there is a plethora of internal devices that can be installed, on the plate provided for this purpose inside it will be possible to install either 2 x 2.5 ″ and 2 x 3.5 ″, or 5 x 2.5 ″ or even 3 x 2.5 ″ and 1 x 3.5 ″, so everyone will find their account, this type of case is not really designed to make a storage server but it could do so if necessary. A 5.25 ″ slot for a “slim” drive is also present, the installation of the latter will encroach on the 3.5 ″ and 2.5 ″ installable devices as you can see in the table above.

Ventilation side mixes if there is no original fan 1 location for 8 or 9.2 cm is present, which will help with ventilation if the need arises. The CPU cooler can reach a maximum height of 5.5 cm if no 3.5 ″ peripheral is installed on the plate above it, it will be necessary to be satisfied with 2.8 cm in the opposite case, which is very little.

A quick word on the power supply which is an important point to take into consideration with the F7C Alpha, here no question of an ATX or even SFX model, it will absolutely be necessary to buy one of the brand’s Nano type (from 120W to 160W) ) or a Pico, these power supplies are passive and only include internally the connections necessary for the correct functioning of the configuration, the rest is deported outside in the form of a brick like on a laptop PC.

You should know that in addition to being atypical, this type of power supply is much more expensive than a classic ATX model, it takes between 80 and 100 € to have the couple internal power supply + brick.
offered at a price of around 80 € the Streacom F7C Alpha is clearly not for everyone, it is oriented office / living room PC for those who want a high-end and classy product, let’s see what that gives!

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_box1

The box of the F7C Alpha could not be more sober, all black with only the name of the model and a note saying that it is made of aluminum. The total absence of any commercial spiel is pleasing.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_box2

Once the box is open you come across a thick foam surrounding the beast, transport should not be a problem, in addition to the fact that the cardboard itself is very strong.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_bundle

The bundle consists of:

  • 1 x Streacom F7C Alpha box
  • 1 x manual
  • 2 x clips for optional fan
  • 2 x clips for 2.5 ″ peripherals when installing above the plate
  • The necessary hardware packed in individual bags

As we can see the bundle is minimalist but offers everything you need to ride the beast.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha

Here is the beast! The least we can say is that sobriety is the order of the day. The case is made of thick aluminum plates which makes it very solid. The F7C Alpha is all black, you can see the slot that will be used for a DVD / Blu-ray player “Slot in” as well as the power button on the front and the 2 USB 3.0 ports. The F7C Alpha is small and will definitely go perfectly next to a TV.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_exterieur_facade

The front is like the product of a foolproof sobriety, a slot for a DVD / Blu-ray player, the power button as well as 2 USB 3.0 ports and a slot for an infrared receiver (optional). The build quality is excellent here.

On the sides we see the ventilation grids, one will be used for the air inlet of the possible optional fan and the other is there for the extraction. It is a shame not to have a dust filter here that said, it will be necessary to open the beast from time to time to avoid too much accumulation inside.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_exterieur_arriere

At the rear we find in addition to the obligatory location for the I / O plate of the motherboard a small ventilation grid, an extension bracket in “low profile” format, a kesington slot as well as a slot for the power connector (the round next to the ventilation grille).

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_exterieur_dessus

What about above? Nothing except that the aluminum plate makes it very classy.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_exterieur_dessous

Underneath there are still some ventilation grilles in addition to the 4 feet equipped with rubber which will isolate any vibrations from the surface on which the F7C Alpha is placed.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_interieur_1

Here is the interior of the beast! From the opening you fall on the plate which is used to fix all the peripherals, on the right the location of the 5.25 ″ drive and on the left the 2.5 ″ peripheral, it is also possible to install 3.5 ″ or 2.5 ″ peripherals below. (depending on the height of the processor cooler).

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_interieur_2

Once the plate is removed we fall on the location of the motherboard and the various cables. It is clear here that the storage of the cables will be at best anecdotal, it will be necessary to place them where there is room without any means of hiding them (except by passing some under the motherboard), it is not not much of a concern though since no one will see the inside unless you open the beast.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_interieur_connectiques

The connection is very small here, a USB 3.0 connector as well as a Power button and an LED (which can either be used for powering up or even disk activity).

The configuration used during the tests is as follows:

  • Processor : Intel Core i5 655K @ Stock
  • CPU Fan : Noctua NH-L9i
  • Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-H55N-USB3
  • Memory : Corsair Vengeance DDR3 4go 1600 MHz
  • SSD : Intel 320 40GB
  • Power supply : Streacom Nano 120 Watts
  • Operating system : Windows 10 64bits

The case being very restrictive in terms of the cooler, I brought the Noctua NH-L9i out of its sleep, so it will be the only case tested today.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_alimentation

Before starting it is good to quickly introduce you to the installation of the power supply supplied by Streacom for my test (to be purchased separately), it comes with a PCB to be installed directly on the 24-pin of the motherboard, itself equipped with a connector to be installed on the box where the passive brick will be connected (as on a laptop PC) to which you will have to connect the cables for the different components (1 x 4-pin processor, 1 x molex and 2 x Sata ).

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_alimentation2

The PCB is plugged directly into the 24-pin connector on the motherboard.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_alimentation3

The connector is fixed to the back of the box.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_montage1

Here is the motherboard connected with its power supply, there are not many cables so in the end everything is very clean, all you have to do is replace the top plate with its SSD to finish it all.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_montage2

And here is the work! The plate is in place and the SSD plugged in.
To sum up, the editing goes very well in the Streacom F7C Alpha, on the other hand with a lot of peripherals installed it would perhaps have been a little more difficult.

In order to test the box, I will carry out an OCCT Power Supply test for 30mins and then take the temperatures of the main components such as the processor (average of the 4 cores), the motherboard, the graphics card as well as the hard drive. Since there is no mechanical hard drive or fan slot there will only be one test.
Regarding noise pollution, I will proceed as in the file on silent PCs namely 1 raised in front, to the right, to the left, to the rear and above with the box in vertical position.

Testing

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_resultats_repos_temperatures

As one would expect in a closed case without active ventilation, the temperatures at rest are rather high with 37 ° for the processor and 47 ° for the motherboard, nothing that can affect the proper functioning of the configuration that said, it we will have to see what it gives once the machine is loaded.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_resultats_repos_level_sonores

Ambient sound level: 31dB

The noise level on the other hand is excellent, the only reading exceeding the ambient level threshold is at the rear with 32 dB, we can say that the machine is really silent and you will have to stick your ear to the frame to hear the sound. NH-L9i fan.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_resultats_repos_PWM

The NH-L9i’s fan spins at around 1000 RPM at rest, which is not its minimum speed but is enough to be very quiet.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_resultats_charge_temperatures

Charge

Under load as one would have suspected seeing the results at rest, the processor heats up rather a lot with a temperature reaching 79 °, this is not detrimental for the processor in itself but it is starting to do a lot. Gloves must however be used, this temperature results from a load which is very far from being realistic in conventional use, in fact this box and the configuration associated with it is designed to be an HTPC or an office PC, a 100% CPU load for long periods is not really likely to happen.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_resultats_charge_level_sonores

Ambient sound level: 31dB

Once again the sound level is very contained, with a maximum of 36 dB at the rear, it goes without saying that in a classic environment the F7C Alpha will be forgotten. Again this represents the sound level at maximum load, most of the time it will be quiet.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_resultats_charge_PWM2

The fan spins logically faster than in a well ventilated box here rising to a maximum speed of 1900 RPM, it is not nothing but fortunately that Noctua offers good fans.

Streacom_F7C_Alpha_random

Here we are at the end of this test, what about the Streacom F7C Alpha?
Streacom makes it a point of honor to provide boxes with excellent manufacturing quality and finish, it must be admitted that the F7C Alpha fulfills these criteria perfectly, the all aluminum gives a high-end side to the beast, the finish is excellent and its sobriety makes it particularly suitable for being placed next to the TV.

In terms of performance on the other hand, it will be necessary to pay attention to the choice of the processor, in fact the absence of a fan makes the air flow more minimalist and the processor will quickly heat up if the load is heavy and sustained, which does not However, this should not be the case during office use and / or watching movies, which is the main purpose of the F7C Alpha.

Offered at a price of around 90 € it is also necessary to take into consideration the purchase of a Pico PSU (or Streacom Nano) type power supply which is not given, despite this its high-end classy side will make it a perfect choice for HTPC setup.

Advantages

  • Build quality
  • 100% Aluminum
  • Sobriety
  • Inaudible at rest (with the components studied)

Disadvantages

  • Fanless performance
  • Non-standard power supply

A big thank you to Streacom who allowed me to do this test.
