MOSCOW, September 13 – PRIME. The delay in the launch of the fourth reactor at the Swedish nuclear power plant Ringhals was bad news for Finland on the eve of winter, said Jukka Ruusunen, CEO of the Finnish electricity grid company Fingrid.
The media reported the postponement of the launch of the nuclear power plant in Sweden for two months
Earlier, Vattenfall announced that the fourth reactor at Ringhals Nuclear Power Plant, Sweden’s largest nuclear power plant, will be launched in January, two months later than planned.
“Sweden plays a big role in the Scandinavian electricity market. Technical problems at Ringhals are bad news for us,” Ruusunen said in the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper.
He underlined that the import of Swedish electricity is especially important in Finland during the cold winter months, when the level of wind generation is falling.
The issue of the state of electricity generating capacities in Finland has become relevant against the backdrop of the refusal to import Russian electricity. The successful passage of the winter in Finland largely depends on the launch of the Olkiluoto-3 nuclear power plant, which operates in test mode at about 70% capacity. The full commissioning of the Olkiluoto-3 NPP is expected in December.
