The first Avante 2200 corvette delivered to the Saudi navy

Spanish shipbuilding company Navantia has handed over to the Royal Saudi Naval Force (RSNF) the first of five Avante 2200 corvettes to be built at the state’s Bay of Cadiz yards. The entire ceremony of accepting AL-JUBAIL took place in one of the facilities of the La Carraca Naval Base in San Fernando.

These Avente 2200 type corvettes for the Saudi navy are nothing new, but just a special, tailored design designed to provide advanced performance, excellent offshore performance, high survivability and the ability to operate in extreme temperatures. An example of these corvettes is AL-JUBAIL, 104 meters long and 14 meters wide, which can accommodate 102 people on board.

More will follow soon, as the progress of work on all the corvettes is impressive. After signing the contract for the construction of five of them, from July 2020 Navantia has already launched four more every 4 months. The last corvette is to be in the hands of the navy in 2024. On the other hand, the work is also carried out by the seamen themselves, i.e. about 500 crew members, who are to board these corvettes, will complete the training process at the Navantia Training Center (NTC) in San Fernando.

Each of the Avante 2200 corvettes is an example of modern equipment that combines the HAZEM combat system, the integrated HERMESYS communication system, the DORNA fire control system, the integrated platform control system and the integrated MINERVA bridge.
