The Geforce RTX 3080 is 20 percent faster than the RTX 2080 Ti

On August 22, 2018, Nvidia lifted the cover from the “Turing” family, which means that the second anniversary is fast approaching. Prior to the launch, information about the upcoming cards leaked out of a sieve, and when it comes to the upcoming “Ampere” -based cards, there are also many rumors. Nvidia has unveiled the architecture itself and confirmed that it will range from consumer to server products and the latter is what is currently official.

Recently, information about the cooling solution for the Geforce RTX 3080 has been on the agenda, along with rumors of specifications. In terms of performance levels set against the current RTX 2000 family, there has been talk of up to four times ray tracingperformance and 50 percent in other contexts. Now the Twitter user KkatCorgi proclaims that the said RTX 3080 will beat RTX 2080 Ti by around 20 percent.

The same user presented towards the end of June specifications that are said to apply to the Geforce RTX 3000 series, where it is stated, for example, that the upcoming RTX 3080 matches the flagship RTX 2080 Ti with the number of CUDA cores. The latest post does not mention what the 20 percent increase in performance is based on, which is why this information should also be taken with a pinch of salt. It is probably not pure ray tracingperformance referred to.

Judging by SweClocker’s performance index, the Geforce RTX 2080 Ti is about 25 percent stronger than the RTX 2080 in 4K UHD, which means that the improvement between the latter model and the RTX 3080 is expected to be around 50 percent. If this is true, a greater performance life is offered compared to the transition from GTX 1080 to RTX 2080, which in the same resolution is about 40 percent faster. In 4K UHD, about 33 percent difference between GTX 1080 Ti and RTX 2080 Ti, an increase that can probably be even greater with the card’s successor, which looks to be named RTX 3090.

At the time of writing, the exact percentage increase can only be speculated on, and the same applies to the improvements ray tracing-front. However, as the launch of consumer-oriented Ampere creeps closer, more and more well-founded performance tests are likely to emerge. When the actual launch takes place is shrouded in obscurity, but information indicates that it will take place before the end of the year.
